Tell me about the FOIS

Hi all,

I've been kind of a Speedmaster hater for awhile, but I'm slowly coming around to the FOIS. Can you you guys tell me more about it? Is it an LE (and if so, how many?), or is it still available at the AD?

Also, is it something that Omega fans gravitate towards, or is it more of an ugly stepchild?

Thanks in advance for your knowledge!

It gets thumbs-up from Omega enthusiasts. I've been tempted before, but I dig my Speedmaster Pro a lot, and I prefer an acrylic crystal to the sapphire used on the FOIS.

Wearing the FOIS on its strap is a great look, and it's really comfy.

Give it a try!

They are into the 11k’s. Still available and many prefer the 39.7m straight lugged shape. Look great on a strap and also with a bracelet if you can find one.

While this wears smaller than the standard speedy pro, the fois is slightly taller on the wrist.

Great watch, as are the CK2998’s with the same case shape.

Few notes to add about the FOIS

-It's a numbered edition, not limited.
-It doesn't wear much smaller than the Pro, they wear pretty much the same. The only reason why the FOIS measures smaller is due to the lack of crown guards.

Steve, they aren't quite into the 11k's yet, it can still be had for 4k from a TS here on TRF.

I think he meant 11k in numbers made, not price.

Thanks all for the info so far! One thing that does drive me away from the moonwatch is the bracelet; I find it very unattractive when compared to Rolex. I've seen a FOIS on a mesh bracelet, and that actually looked enticing.

Smaller lug width also makes it not compatible with MOTM bracelets and straps.

Correct, but a speedy racing bracelet (along with a couple of others) fit nicely.

I will post some pics.

Yes, I did mean 11k numbers, not price. Would be a little expensive at that level!

That mesh is on another level! Who makes it, if you don't mind me asking?

I'm very much a "variety is best" kind of guy, and with 2 sport model Rolexes on bracelets and the BBN on a leather strap, adding the FOIS to the collection on mesh would certainly be welcome.

The mesh is from watch gecko. It fits very nicely and is a nice change up. Was about £40 from memory.

Was debating between omg the FOIS vs professional. It’s one of those watches you have to try on in person. Either you like the FOIS or the professional. But like the others said it’s numbered but not limited. No one knows when omega will stop making them. Can be easily obtained at all omega ADs as they have them in stock. It’s not as wide but sits taller on the wrist.

I had one and put it on a 19mm bracelet from a Racing (or the Speedmaster Date auto). I liked it a lot but will say in dim light it was almost impossible to read.

I have one. It’s great and just feels immediately right. I Chose it over the SMP as it does wear smaller - probably down to the lugs and the lack of crown guards. Only negatives: the lume on the minute hand is pants, the standard leather strap is a bit ropey, and the 19mm lug-width means the bracelets available don’t fit perfectly, and off-the-shelf straps are relatively hard to find...

I saw that as a plus, I'll never understand the nostalgia or appeal of a cloudy plastic crystal on a modern watch.

It is 1mm shorter lug to lug than the speedmaster professional, but the legs are longer. I had it but prefer the look of the regular speedy pro

Well it's not 11k but someone locally has one up for $8400. Seems crazy to me but I know nothing about this model
