DD 1803 Check
I just purchased this DD 1803. Before I completely finalize the deal I wanted to ask the vintage experts here if everything looks correct.
Thanks for the help! |

I just realized lume still lights up on the dial and hands. Is that possible for a watch that is from 1963? Maybe a relume?

I blasted it with my phone light and the camera made it look brighter but it is a strong lume.
I originally noticed the lume after going into a dark room. It was more faint, but bright enough that I noticed. I can't imagine a 60 year lume still works like that. So the dail was either relumed or is a service dial??? |

There should be no relationship between the amount of light you shine on it and how bright the lume is if the lume and dial are original. If it were all original, you would almost certainly not be able to see any illumination at all at this point.

Thanks @physicist. Seems like the dial is reither relumed or a service dial. Not sure there is a way to tell unless seeing the underside of the dial?

I would assume it’s been relumed, as I don’t think a service dial which lights up that way would be marked T Swiss T. It appears all the lume plots (except perhaps #1) are damaged. Perhaps also some slight damage on the back of the 7 lug?

Old tritium lume will glow briefly if subjected to a bright light source, but it’s fleeting.
Looking at how the lume dots have ‘mushed’ makes me think it’s original but each plot could also have been coated over with new lume. |

The dial has been refinished/relumed. The band looks to be correct for the watch, and 1803 dials aren't too difficult to find - white dials (original) are a bit expensive.
