Which would you get, 5164 or 5712 steel?

Hello everyone. I am currently thinking of getting one of these 2 but for the death of me can't make up my mind. I hope one day I can own both but the budget only allows one now.

It would definitely help me out if you guys could tell me your thoughts on each watch. Your opinions on them and which you would pick if it came down between the 2. Please tell me why as well.

5164 is nice but I've no need for a GMT function and I don't like the home, local indicator. I actually prefer the 5167, slimmer, great dial, no clutter.

I love the 5711, so of the two you mention, I'd get the 5164 and pick up a 5711 later. That would be a great combo IMO

5164 - the 5712 is my least favourite Nautilus. I personally do not like the dial layout.

In addition to the 5164 you should consider the5711, 5990, 5980 or 5167.

Btw the 5164 is comfortable, has a useful complication and is very discrete. Thierry Stern has been know to wear one too.

Hands down: 5712. It represents Patek's DNA much better and the movement is much more interesting.

Best, Kari

Have you tried on either in person? I prefer this one and very under the radar:

Both fantastic.

If you will wear it mostly with a suit 5712

If you would like to swim with it 5164.

Both:)

Do people not consider the 5164 as being on the same level as the 5712?

And I don't see how you could swim with 5164 as it has 2 screwless pushers

5712 but not a fan of the date on a dial so really prefer the 5711 (date in a window). I've tried a lot to like the Aquanaut's but just can't get on board.

5712. I owned an acquanuat. I can't read the date on the 5164.... Too bunched up IMHO

Manufacturer has engineered it so and says it's ok. Takes the pressure off you having to work it out.

You wear a watch to make you feel good emotionally.. 5164 for the under the radar, no one will notice it but you. It has a very beautiful dial. If you want something to stand out a little bit of course its the nautilus line or the ROO and Rolex.

Here is my take. I own a 5711 and 5167. I prefer the aquanaut to the nautilus and would prefer the 5164 in this case. I like rubber straps. I like the aquanaut dial.

That said, I would love a 5712 as well! Good choices all around here

5712/1a in this case for various reasons, one of which that should not be underestimated is the BLUE dial.

As for the 5167a, I own(ed) one but am in the process of selling it. I found it was not everything I hoped/expected it would be, but that's JMHO. I know it's generally a highly regarded and sought after piece on this Forum, but I don't want to force a watch on myself if I don't love it. There are too many options out there. And while I haven't owned the 5164, I have the same feeling towards it that I have with the simpler 5167.

I plan to keep my 5712 unless I ever go to a more complicated PM Patek, in which case I may move the 5712 for a 5711.

Good luck!

5164, I just can't get over the asymmetric dial on the 5712.
