57261a versus Rolex Daytona Platinum

While I am in agreement with the community that the 57261a is a VERY different watch to the Rolex Daytona Platinum Anniversary Model, I am interested in how others might think about this purchase decision.

It starts with the metal... I get it. Weight, brand, etc...

However, given the warm conditions (literally year around) where I live in Southern California, I think I need a compliment to my 59601a, RG Daytona, GMT II YG/ stainless, among others that have a bracelet.

Please note: I will NOT OVER PAY for a 5711. Please do not suggest that reference. My purchase has nothing to do with price.

I have a number of other watches so this out reach is more about making a decision on a new purchase between the two references mentioned above that I will actually wear daily among others in some sort of rotation given the temperature where I live during the day.

I tend to get bored with daily wear watches so I take into consideration their resale value. The 5726 would be about 31% back and the Daytona would be about 40% back.

While there is a difference in price between the two, that will not factor into my decision.

As aside, I am an avid reader of all everyone's posts. I thoroughly enjoy the enthusiasm all you have towards Patek among other brands. I am a daily reader. Thank you.

I have been a collector of Pateks for the past five years. Needless to say, this is the best environment I have enjoyed to buy Pateks since I started buying the brand.

Don't get me started on that subject...

Thanks in advance for your thoughts.

Respectfully,

I'd rather have a platona. Had a 5726a last year and tried to love it but didn't.

I am interested why you chose to compare these two. Is it that your AD only has the 5726 in stock? If we are comparing apples to apples to logical comparison would be the platona and the 5980/1A or even 5980 AR. I do realise that the 5980/1A has been discontinued, but a preowned or New old stock could quite easily be located. In such a case I would choose the 5980/1A > platona >5980 AR

If I had to choose between the 5726/1A (you are referring to the white dial I assume) or the platona, then the platona wins hands down. You can easily negotiate a 25% + discount from your AD. I have been offered 32% from a Hong Kong AD on numerous occasions, I am sure I can push it up to 35% if needs be.

You have a RG Daytona, you love it so much you want the same watch in PT?

Its always interesting to see these discount percentages being sprinkled around indiscriminatley. I believe that where ever they offer you 30% discounts you better have a looooong and hard look at what your supposed retail price is.
HK appears to be one of those places that start out with inflated prices just so that local(?) customs of haggling can be entertained.
There appear to bemany assumptions about discounts and prices and It would be interesting to see how much the final price comes to after all these steep discounts.

I think comparing the 5726/1A to a Platona is like comparing your 5960/1A to your RG Daytona. They are all good watches in themselves and are complementary to one another in a watch collection.

Since you already have a SS bracelet AC chrono, I would ask yourself if you like the thinner profile of the Nautilus design with the AC without the chrono. I think the 5726 is more elegant than the other watches in your collection, but I am not sure if you are looking for more of a dress watch. In that case the 5726 would be a better watch. If you are looking for another sports watch in precious metal, then the Platona would be the better choice.

Two year member with your first post!

I have both of these watches. Both are nice in their own way. If I had to choose to keep only one of them it would be the Platona. It is a much more robust watch. As far as discounts go, buying used always lends itself to lower prices. I've seen used Platonas in the high $40s. I haven't seen any used 5726s.

Have you considered anything from AP or ALS?

If between those two, 5726. The Rolex is a lovely timepiece, but ultimately, you're paying for bullion, not a beautifully made movement.

Just look at that ice blue! The PP would have to be on full PM to compete for me.

I like the Platona more between these two.
I would tolerate the 2/3 of a pound weight just because it's so beautiful.
Have my eyes on other watches, but Platona is special for sure.
I saw the 5726 in person and it didn't really excite me.

So this... (got to try it on at AD)

In general I like PP over Rolex, however the 5726 does nothing for me...and doesn't do the Nautilus like justice for that matter. I'd go for a 5712 or 5980 instead. That glacier dial is gorgeous tho.

In this case, I would buy the Platona new for 50k or better and move on with life.

Not a fan of 5726 so platinum Daytona wins out for me.

I would get a 5712 and the new ceramic Daytona.
5726 is a watch that is an appealing first Patek or an only 1 Patek collection but not my first choice for a Nautilus. Platona is cool AF, but paying 50K for that coolness is hard for me to justify, but to each its own, there is plenty of owners that can say different.

Good luck bro

5726 for me. Preferably white. Don't love the Platona. But I'd get a new ceramic daytona and put the rest towards a Patek annual calendar like a 5205 or 5396 or 5146.

Not a good matchup. Platona in the first round by KO.
