Saw this watch both times I went to the exhibit - which was fantastic. Neither time did I fall in love with it. There's so much empty real estate on the dial and, as someone else said, it has a Shinola-esque look that's off-putting.

But, hey, it's a PP and an LE at that... so it'll sell.

Of course it will – but you know what they say…less is more.

You think they would want to capitalize on the hype from the exhibition

My comment on the 5524 was dead on, "I wish they made it in steel." Yea!!

Don't think 'most sought after', rather PP decided not to release as many, thus increasing demand.

However, I do agree 5524 is a great watch IMHO.

I also feel "one of the most sought after" is a bit of a stretch. Thierry Stern has stated in an interview he has limited supply of the 5524G since its introduction.

However the 5524 is a great watch!

Not making this a 5524 thread I believe (totally unsubstantiated) that the limiting factor in its production was the case and dual. The movement no!! Hence to test the market they did a small run of. Asked and dials do they wouldn't have 10 000 lying unused if it was a flop!!! Production schedules are planned months in advance and knowing the Swiss mentality with very tight tolerances. They know they are going to make xxx cases of this model between xxxx date and xxxx date and then the machines will switch to another case. Hence they slowed production to meet the availability of casss. Now they know demand they can up the next production run a bit...it's not like a tap you can just turn on.

It's also priced correctly and if I remember correctly cheaper than a 5164R...

And yet not a single one will be left in inventory after they sell out before its even released and if and when it hits the secondary market, it will likely command a hefty premium! Cant wait to get mine. :)

The amount of stupid replies on that hodinkee review is crazy. Someone comparing it to an RGM watch etc. Come on.

I must admit, I didn't "get" patek until I bought one. I thought I appreciated it whilst I owned it, but then I needed the funds and had to sell it. Then I REALLY appreciated it. This was "only" an Aquanaut, and I have no doubt that in the metal, the NYC watch will be much more than just a "basic watch" as people have put it.

I like Hodinkee but can't stand the comments, the comments are why i don't read them anymore, as i can't not look. They should just disable them and provide articles only as the content is generally quite good.

I agree with you that if you don't own a Patek you just don't get it as to what the watch is, as pictures are not representative. If you own one and don't like it fair enough but the vast majority of people who criticize have never owned one. I am a new owner myself and i like mine way more than I thought i would, so I get it.

Yes, I was probably no different before I bought one. In fact I only got the Aquanaut as I was walking past a jeweller with one in their window display; this was well over a year ago before waiting lists were like they are now. I thought about it for 24hrs and then had to have it.

Thin, elegant, not flashy like my Rolex before it etc. Yet still 120m WR, impressive lume and minimal reflections to the crystal. I have no doubt the new watch will be equally as brilliant. Yes, it's a LOT of money for what it is, but there's 7 billion people in this world, and that includes a lot of collectors of fine watches with plenty of cash.

There will be speculators of course, and for those, the market will possibly be even more fluid outside of the US where it was impossible to purchase one of these.

Weren't you warned awhile back about fanboy trolling in the Patek/AP forums?
