Can Rolex do this during service? SD43 question.

I would never in a million years have this done, but am just curious... would Rolex be able to swap out the SD43's crystal/glass for one without a cyclops during a service?

No. The model comes with the cyclops, full stop. For better or for worse, Rolex is not one to allow customization.

Rolex will never allow that under any circumstance.

I’m sure you could find a Rolex trained watchmaker to do that. I’m pretty sure the SD4K crystal will fit.

Hi Ra_88

I have a SD43 and while visiting a Rolex Service centre found my self talking with a Tech she said it may fit as it would appear its a larger case and bezel but the crystal maybe interchangeable, I have started several posts on the subject . Buy on the Tech forum some one has answer and measured the Two Crystals they are different .

If anyone finds out this isn't correct please let me know

Doubt Rolex would do it as others have said. However, it's part of the story of the watch and I wouldn't remove it for that reason.

Won't fit. SD43 crystal is larger.

you can probably DIY to remove the cyclops. Saw someone did that before.

The crystal on the SD43 is definitely larger then the one on the SDC. Before I sold my SDC, I compared the two closely, and the SD43 is bigger by at least 1.5mm or so, maybe 2.

The other issue you'd have if you remove the cyclops yourself, you'll find that Rolex uses anti glare coating under the cyclops (placed on the crystal itself), therefore, you'll be rid of the cyclops, but have a cyclops outline where it used to be. Do a google search, you'll see what I mean.

Good luck!

It’s interesting there still isn’t consensus on size of SD43 crystal. Still

They will only replace parts with those that are original to the model number.

Nope and if you get it done outside they won't even touch the watch nor service it.

Really? I would think they'd just replace the crystal and add it to your bill.

That is exactly what Rolex would do.

Thats the case for the original crystal, not a custom or a crystal from another reference.

The cyclops can be removed, just don’t follow Jocke’s tutorial!

I am surprised I haven’t seen a sd43 sans cyclops yet. I figured it would be a popular mod.

Is the sd43 crystal raised like the sd4k? I didn’t think that it was. Can anyone with an sd43 confirm?

Would that raised crystal cause an issue wit the fitment even if they were the same size otherwise?

The crystal on the SD43 is nearly flush unlike the SD4k which is raised. It's the same thickness just that the SD43 is better designed to hide it.

I don't see how the SD4k crystal would be the same size. Isn't the dial and face larger.

Again, they aren't the same size dials. The SD43 is 1mm larger.

The SD43 crystal is close to 2mm larger in diameter.

Looks can be deceiving.

Have you actually measured them both, or are you surmising?

Well according to my scavenging through the various forums, I have discovered that the SD43's dial is 1mm larger than the Submariner/SD4K/DSSD who all have the same diameter dial.
SD43=29mm dial
SD4K=28mm dial
These measurements are specifically for the dials, not crystals. Although you can surmise what it may mean for the crystals.
