Very interesting, you have quite a selections of creams/foods for your straps.

It seems that the idea of cream/foods is to put back or replenish the natural waxes oils removed by the tanning process, the weather and wear.

However, these creams/foods do slighly darken the natural and lighter colour leathers

For instance I have a light tan GS Crazy Horse strap. When I put the leather food on it, it goes a few shades darker. But I guess you do need to put the leather cream on just to keep the leather in good condition.

I use Chelsea Leather Food. It is made in England and does a pretty fine job. I know Greg Steven sells and recommends it. Chelsea Leather Food has been around for over 100 years and was used by Sir Edmond Hillary on all his Everest Expeditions to nourish and treat his leather apparel.

The most important thing with leather creams/food is buy ones without animal fats, such as tallow (a type of pig fat). Animal fats have been shown to cause degradation to the cotton stitching and this lead to the failure of the stitching and the products.

Chelsea leather food uses no animal fats. However some dubbins do have tallow, so it is good to check that there are no animal fats. Saying 'natural waxes and oils' does not necessarily exclude animal fats, as those are naturally occurring.

go to www.russellmoccasin.com in the USA for some good leather care products. Made for weatherproofing leather boots, but will work great on leather watch straps.
