The date is super handy for me. I usually know what day of the week it is (MTWTF) but often, at work, or dating something, of if you forgot about an appointment, it's super handy. Plus the cyclops---so very classic Rolex.

Got me a DJ41 TT Champagne/Jubilee, and the next one will be a DayDate-40.

Thank God I don't have a compulsion to have every bezel option they offer on the GMTs!
Interesting that the two models you mention (DD and DJ) seem to be on the lower end of secondhand desirability and resale value. I mean there are a ton of 4 digit reference YG DDs for sale for ~$10k, which is kind of crazy. Like I'm kind of keen on the WG olive DD but when the MSRP is $37k and secondhand is ~$28k it gives me pause...

I've recently being drawn to this watch. I saw one on a trip to Vegas recently (it was the YG olive whereas I want the WG like yours). Having them now in 40 instead of 36 is really appealing (36 wears too small on my wrist). The drop from MSRP to secondhand price is the price of a whole SS Rolex however (assuming someone would sell you one).

its because they are seen as more dressy pieces and their style is classic/old fashioned. people nowadays want divers or chronos. also unless its a daytona most PM models don't really hold value anyway

If you are buying the DD/DJ to flip it, then the resale value might be a problem. If you are buying the DD/DJ to use it, because you love the watch, then the resale value is something that you shouldn’t think at all.

I wear my SS Daytona or BLNR because I love them too and those I can sell for more than I purchased them for should the need or desire ever arise. That could just be trading up too.

Personally I'd be way less likely to drop $10k+ on a watch if it didn't retain value so well and be so liquid. I mean you're basically storing cash on your wrist at this point.

If I could only own 1 watch, it would be the DD. The President bracelet, along with the AP
RO and PP Nautilus, is the best of all time, IMO. The DD has timeless good looks, useful complications, a robust movement, water resistant and durable case, and can straddle the casual/dressy line.

Of the three watches I mentioned with my favorite bracelets, the Day-Date is the only one offered exclusively in precious metals. Even after years of ownership, they continue to be a joy every single time I wear one.
