Are all AD that bad?

So let me explain. I went to my AD in order to get my Daytona checked. I bought from a sure dealer but still I want in to be checked.
Anyway, I hand the over to one of the SA, he goes into their workshop and get back few minutes after:
-him: mister there is an issue with the watch, someone polished the serial number between the lugs at 6 o’oclok
-me: whaaaat?
-him: yes look
-me: well I don’t see anything and it is a scrambled number from 2015 so they don’t have anymore the serial number between the lugs
-him: no not true
-me: yes it is true

The discussion started to heat up a little bit, and then the owner comes.

I explain the situation and

- him: Sir your are right
- me : yes I know.
- him: we are taking of the watch

Meanwhile the SA disappeared, probably better for him.

Then they give me the receipt for the watch and no model reference, no serial number on it.

-me: huh is it normal
-them: yes
-me: no way, give me my watch back

The owner comes back

-him: Sir you are right the ref and the serial number have to be on the receipt
-me: yes I know

Are they all that crazy?

I am fortunate to have an amazing relationship with my AD. Smaller dealer so less volume however incredible service.

However most I visited are terrible

Most big city ADs are not that good imo. The smaller ones seem to be much nicer. They’re still not going to get you shi$ but they’re nicer lol. The last Rolex I bought from my AD did not have the serial number on the receipt.

Unbelievable. And the same AD will make you buy overpriced necklaces to get a simple datejust.

Send it yourself to Rolex Watch Service Center. Dallas is my favorite.

OP, your post is very vague but sounds like you bought a used Daytona from someone you don’t really trust(first mistake), then wanted an AD to authenticate it.
Very few ADs will do this, just not worth it to them. Pretty sure a US RSC won’t either unless you agree to a full service. My AD is awesome but if you requested that from them they would say “no, we don’t do that.”

PS: Buy the Seller, not the watch.

Every single day there will be a new post criticising ADs…. And tomorrow the sun rises again! What’s new?

I’m confused as to what you had done to the watch. What was the receipt for?

What Daytona model do you have?

Sorry if it is was not clear.
I bought it from a seller I fully trust, there are few details on the dial that let me think the dial is older than the watch. Seller agrees. This is why I wanted to sent it to Rolex so they can check, change the dial if need be and yes service the watch. Seller agrees and he will pay for whatever the RSC will do. That’s all.

Nothing done. It was the receipt when you drop your watch off for a service.

Reading a my first post, I understand how it was maybe a bit confusing.

It an interesting question to ask if all dealers are lousy because of an experience you had. Sometimes, we indirectly contribute to these types of interactions/outcomes by not being clear and setting expectation. But honestly after reading your post I was unsure what in the world happened and what you wanted to happen. Best to you!

There are many amazing and knowledgeable ADs and SAs out there but even more that are the opposite.

I've been very fortunate to have had the pleasure of doing business with not one, but two great AD's since I began the watch journey.

I think it's incredibly shitty to buy something second hand and then go to an AD and ask them to authenticate it, especially if it's a relatively recent model. Send it to RSC and get a real answer and a service.

It's like buying some Target branded merch for a "great price" from some internet reseller and then taking it to Target and asking the manager if it's real or asking to compare it to the item on the shelf.

Business is business. ADs know the game. Nothing stopping a manager in that case from saying “yes it’s real, congrats on getting a great deal you lucky fish. Next time come to us please if your luck runs out. Thanks again for coming in; have a nice day”

It is tough being an AD today and having to tell folks over and over they do not have the product to sell to them when all ADs really want to do is to sell to everyone who comes into the store. More sales means more money. Some people actually think ADs enjoy this misery.
