Gonna try and bring this thread back down to earth, at least for a little bit . You guys have been firing off MONSTERS!

Picked up a case of each of these yesterday. Wines we enjoy on an everyday basis at a low price point.

Cheers all and have a great weekend!

Those are some good solid choices right there!

I still can't help correlate The Prisoner with Orin Swift -- even though it is its own label now.

The Abstract, Papillon and Mercury Head wines are very good as well (Orin Swift).

Cheers!!!!

I couldn't agree with you more my friend.

The thing I've noticed about Petrus is that it tends to mature quite well (and quickly)the first 5-10 years...but the next 5-10 plus it becomes SPECTACULAR.

The beauty of Right Bank Bordeaux -- they can be drank at anytime -- and be amazing!!

And '86s are drinking SO well right now.

I hope provenance and storage of the '86 Petrus is spot-on! Unfortunately, so many fakes out floating around out there.....😡

Isn't that the truth!! -- fortunately a great long time friend of mine (who is also a broker) does quite a bit of analysis (provenance, storage, etc) on any older vintages or any big names - before he will even bring up -- so very fortunate there.

But you definitely have GOT to be careful on those purchases!

How did it show? Glad to hear the 86s are drinking well, I wasn't sure they'd ever come around!

I had some solid wines today, but it must have been a root day or something, everything tasted a little thin. 09 Saxum Broken Stones, 12 Vineyard 7&8 Cab, 10 Fairchild Sigaro(needs a decade), 13 Blankiet Rive Droit, 01 Clarendon Hills Astralis

It was VERY good -- the last couple of '86s I've had have honestly (in my opinion) been better than the '85s -- which as a vintage was better in Bordeaux -- they're showing well right now.

This was an auction purchase on a lark and was a total surprise, thought it would be way past viability and beyond significant, I was wrong! Still fruit forward and fresh, like a Bordeaux almost as sacrilegious as that sounds it's true!

That's AWESOME!!

Never ceases to amaze me - some older vintage Napa wines and how they hold so much structure.

Thanks, gents! The '90 Dom P is the same vintage that my wife and I consumed right after we became officially married. The '06 DRC represents our wedding year. So lots of meaning wrapped into the bottles we had last night.

The Dom P was in a great place if you like champers with age on them (which my wife and I both do). The La Tache was good, but should morph into really good with a long life ahead of it.

Great way to celebrate, congrats again. My wife and I are coming up in five years in April. I'll be taking notes

2010 Dolce, Napa Valley [375ml]

Just received (2) bottles of "Liquid Gold". I'm pretty sure you guys/gals know about this wine from Far Niente. The longer you store it the better it gets! Highly Recommended!!!!

Vintage
2010

Appellation
Napa Valley

Harvest Date
November 4 – 15, 2010

Aging
32 months in French oak (100% new)

Fermentation
1-6 months

Alcohol %
14.1

Tasting Notes

The 2010 Dolce offers predominant aromas of butterscotch and dried apricots enriched with subtle notes of nutmeg and caramel. Flavors of stone fruit, mostly apricot and peach, mingle with honeysuckle and the caramel character promised by the aroma. This wine’s sweetness is in balance with a mouthwatering acidity and its silky texture is present from the coating entry to its smooth and lengthy finish. This wine is concentrated with fruit flavors but its youthful expression is expected to develop inviting bakery aromas over time—warm brioche and crème brûlée descriptors are becoming evident already.

Vineyard Notes

Dolce’s 20-acre vineyard is located in Coombsville, east of the city of Napa, and are situated at the base of the Vaca Mountains, which define the eastern border of the valley. The volcanic soil is loose and well drained, and the west-facing vineyard is protected from the prevailing winds so that the damp, morning fog of autumn—a very important factor in the development of Botrytis cinerea—hangs longer amongst the vines, often until midday. A combination of high humidity followed by drying conditions encourages, but does not guarantee, the growth of Botrytis. As the mold develops, its coverage is seemingly random with individual berries succumbing to Botrytis at different rates, if at all.

Thanks again everyone for the well wishes! While I never doubted I'd be celebrating 10 years out with my wife from when we got married, I'd hardly imagined I'd be ordering DRC without a second thought at this stage of my life (or really, ever).

#blessed
