For a tool watch, I have to say black. But, in all candor, I have to say that Rolex pulled off that blue dial brilliantly. I feel rather guilty about liking it so much.

I love the blue version, blue is even my favorite color but local AD only had the black. Loving it so far, and do not regret.

As I went thru the thread tallying the votes, the overwhelming consensus for the blue surprised me. But I agree I love it too!

PS - is anyone bothered by the end links on the DSSD? For some reason it just bugs me how they don't seem to fit appropriately. Does anyone else notice this?

Each and every one of them fits perfectly as far as Rolex is concerned.
It's simply a feature of the model just as it is with the Yachty.

The OP question was is the $3000 acquisition cost difference worth it. The market says yes, this is what people are willing to pay. However this difference is also partly driven by oversupply of black and under supply of D-blue.
As an economic question, I do not believe the difference will sustain. If you love the black face, this is an excellent time to pick up that piece. If you love the D-blue, it's a gamble - you might pay too much and no one likes to do that.

I think both black and blue version look good. D-Blue is harder to get because most people go for the blue one. Probably Rolex will end up selling more D-Blue than the original black version.

Thinking about this more, I'd love to have both variants. If only one though, the D-Blue would still win hands down, hair down, pants down. It's incredible. The black does look classic though.

Yup D-blue is a special edition commerating the our unquenchable and insatiable thirst for exploration and ingenuity.

DSSD black is nice, but the significance is just not there.

As a brand new owner I can whole heartedly say the blue wins for me. I had tried the black on twice before and it just didn't sing to me.

I have 8-inch-+ wrists and was a little excited about trying on the Deep-Blue-Sea-Dweller. I could EASILY get away with wearing this watch full-time.
However, I felt the the BRACELET was not commensurate with the larger watch body.
I feel it needs to be THICKER & WIDER.....by maybe 20%.....
Felt like a stick of chewing gum wrapped around my wrist compared to the watch itself.

If you decide on black....I think the Sea-Dweller-4000 is VERY cool....

Agree that the bracelet should be wider
Thicker I'm not sure

Either way, it looks like cost savings on parts of the clasp and with removable links unfortunately took priority
