The waterproof rating is only for the ocean, I'm sure shower water will flood the poor thing.
As another said, a Deepsea is probably just ok for washing your hands.

Showering with your Rolex on

Great post. I have an 1985 Seiko 6309 that I would regularly wear in the shower. I just bought my first Rolex this week, 1997 Explorer 14270. I know it is a rugged watch and getting it wet is fine but I am not yet ready to go there. Perhaps in the future.

If you're showering daily with soap or shampoo that have ammonia and or alcohol as ingredients you're going to be having an even bigger problem than seals in your watch.

I don't shower with my Rolex on, but my uncle did it for 20 years and never had an issue.

Touche i guess we don't really have ammonia in shower products. But believe it or not i have read of some owners thinking it's ok to clean their watches with household cleaners

Sometimes I do but usually I take it off because it makes drying off easier. If I wear it in the shower it tends to hold water between the watch and my wrist.

I haveno problem with it on ocassion when taking it off is not ok. Mostly I avoid it not because I afraid of the water but because of soap and other things tarnish it and then I have to clean more often with dishwasher soap.

Nope. Never. And it's a Sub.

Not because it can't handle it, but mostly because I end up disliking the water/soap stains. :P

No, I find it utterly ridiculous and unnecessary. It's.not the water obviously but the risk of banging it against the wall, stainless steel tap, shower head and other plumbing bits.

No watches in the shower period!

Why would you take a watch to shower? Swimming in a pool or the ocean is a different thing!

As a kid I used to wear my watch 24/7. But not anymore! Maybe some of us still have that kid in us ;)

Same.

How else am I supposed to keep track of time in the shower? I guess the iPhone X is 'water resistant' now though. lol

Are we really saying that the shower is too dangerous of an environment for watches originally designed to explore caves, mountains and the deep ocean?

Dangerous? More like difficult to understand (to put it mildly). It's one thing to use it as a tool doing what it was designed for and another to dent it in the shower just for the sake of it. It makes no sense to me. It's like driving hard a sports car in a traffic jam just because it's a sports car. Yep, that guy.

Funny this came up. I inadvertently got into the shower with my Explorer on this morning, for the first time ever, and cursed myself. Set it on the shelf and hoped it wouldn't fall. All I could think of was inadvertently smashing it against a fixture or dropping it on the tile. And if I am taking a shower, would like to be clean, so why wear a watch?

Facepalms x infinity.
