Ebay Tudor- authentic

Hi all- I don't know where to turn on this- I put in a low bid to watch a Tudor submariner and ended up winning-- after the fact I saw the seller doesn't have the greatest feedback-- it's mixed. Any comments on the watch itself??

I'm gut is thinking this is a bad deal-- and usually that means it is.

I think I'm going to ask them to pop the bracelet so I can see the serial numbers-- since it would be so easy on this model.

If you don't want to win it, why bid?

Doesn't look too bad, patina'd from use - why do you think it's suss?

Seller's feedback ain't encouraging but PayPal should cover your butt so no real risk there IMHO.

Pay up and get it checked. eBay hate fakes and if you can prove it fake, you get a refund and the seller looses out

Normally I would have done more due diligence but for some stupid reason I was rushing, and not thinking bidding would have stopped there. Really the only thing that set me off was the buyer having a couple of dings which I didn't see until after the fact.

I agree, winning the bid I own it-- but I don't think anyone is obligated to anything where they think fraud is a possibility-- and I've caught fraud a couple of times after "winning" an auction after I've become suspicious of a seller. One time I even paid a few thousand for a watch overseas and only became suspicious after paying. I contacted paypal and they stopped the payment before it finished but a few hours more, had the fraudster claimed the money faster- it would have been much more difficult.

Paypal is not an automatic remedy-- I've heard a lot of horrors on all sides.

Its also a 36mm model which isnt as desirable as the 40mm. This may be why is didnt have as much traffic.

Thanks everyone-- I paid - and will report back when it comes in. I agree the description was ridiculous... the feedback was ridiculous... just everything about this is screaming. He answered a couple of questions, and I did enough of a background investigation on him to take the risk. I used paypal so at least there would be minimal protection. I certainly don't count on them as being a for sure.

I really need to stop entering bids when I want to watch something, and just hit "watch" instead.

The guy didn't do himself any favors with his listing, that's for sure. For a 36mm it was a little low- I see those in the 2500 range. I'm not sure about the "blue" on this one either, it might be a fade.

It's faded to an odd color of dark navy- I've noticed a few other 76000's have done this - but this is a discussion for another board.

Is it just me or is that a really good price for that watch?

I thought Tudor subs fetched $5-8K and above. Or is that just the 40mm version?

eBay do hate them but just can’t police their site properly. That’s where is reporting fakes helps. That’s why they end listings if they believe them to be fake once reviewed.

In their defence they offer strong buyer protection, that works sometimes to well.

The sheer volume of items being offered on the site makes it very difficult to police each and every item. There just aren't enough people to check everything there. In defense of Ebay, they will take down any reported auction in a fairly timely manner. Not every single time, but most of the time.

There is no defense for ebay, and these issues are totally their fault. That is a $10B business with earning of $2.5B. They spent $2.6B for Skype, and another $1.5B for Paypal. They have $7,000,000,000 of cash on their balance sheet.

But somehow they can't afford to hire 3 experienced watchmakers and have sellers send their goods to a central location for verification prior to being auctioned? If they hate fake goods, what are they doing to keep them off their site? Nothing, that's what they're doing.

The "watchout" guys do far more to keep fake goods off of ebay than ebay does. You guys should form a consulting business to screen for fakes for the likes of ebay. You rid them of hundreds of fakes a year. Do they even thank you?
