Its kinda too chewy for my taste...

The cooked one tasted better IMO... I had the whole fish... The fried, in soup, bbq on table, skin salad...All very good..

I would never mess with Yakuza, but they mostly only brutalise their own, but to a gaijin I guess they can be pretty kako-ee/cool.

From what I've read (and seen on documentary TV), the yakuza serve a cultural function in Japanese society. Through the extortion (aka 'protection') of merchants, petty street crimes are kept to a minimum greatly assisting the urban police forces. On the other hand, drug and human trafficking often puts them at odds with law enforcement. An ironic scenario at best.

Given the ongoing western/American interest in Japanese culture (especially its food and history), curious if a big city 'designer' Yakuza-style tattoo parlor would ever catch on as a potential fashion statement given the elaborateness of their body art and the trend towards 'inking' amongst younger generations.

I didn’t find them to be kakoi.

I just don’t fear or avoid them like the Japanese. I used to ride in a Harley owners group and befriended a member who was a Yakuza. He appreciated that I was neither afraid of him or minded talking with him.

As far as asking those three on the street it was about 2200 after wandering around lost. Our dinner options window was closing fast.

I figured correctly that if these guys didn’t know where it was they would know somewhere good. They were actually very nice and happy that I asked them.
