Your thoughts.....
Hello guys I'm getting ready to get a new piece, I'm between the Patek 5980 in SS with blue dial or the Sky Dweller in white gold with bracelet and black dial. Please let me know what your thoughts are on both watches. The 5980 is pre-owned in perfect condition and the Sky-Dweller is brand new. The price of both watches are very close to each other. I just want to get some opinion from TRF before I make my decision. Thank you guys!!!

For me, even though we are talking SS vs PM, 5980.

What else is in the rotation? I would rather have the skydweller because I have two patek, but if you are looking for your first Patek...then 5980 for me

With your question, you might have similar tastes in watches that I do. Go for the 5980 and then add the Sky-Dweller. Both work great in any rotation. They are so different and in a good way.

I personally am more of a 'watch' fan than a fan of any one specific brand, and I like having variety - both in terms of brands and in terms of styles. So for me the Patek offers a very different experience, which I appreciate and would get more out of than adding the Sky Dweller. But it looks like you are a big Rolex fan, so the question is... is the Sky Dweller a must have for your collection? |

Normally I would go Sky Dweller here, but echoing others the PP would add variety in your collection. That being said it's an incredibly hard task to choose between two grail status high end pieces. Good luck!

I would say both are great choices. Although you are posting this in the Patek forum and expect to get mostly Patek 5980/1A recommendations, IMO I think your predominantly Rolex collection is screaming for a Sky Dweller. I would suggest getting a Sky Dweller first and adding the 5980/1A later. I say this because for many people, adding a SS chronograph for $40K USD is not an easy decision unless you have come to appreciate the brand over the years. Paying that much for a precious metal dual time annual calendar is an easier decision for a Rolex collector.

5980. I was tempted more than once by the Sky-D, but I do not find it to be an attractive annual calendar.
