Zeitwerk Date v. Patek PC

I think this year I'll pull the trigger on one watch only. Either the newly released A Lange Zeitwerk Date or Patek 5327G PC. I already have the 'base' Zeitwerk and have a 5205G AC. So either of these would be 'upgrades'....though I wouldn't sell what I have. I realize this is a good problem to have! Thoughts?

Patek 5327 has one of the nicest blue dials, and along with the micro-rotor, slim case, very useful perpetual date complication, easily win this versus contest for me.

Some like the "digital" complication of the ZW, but to me it's an acquired taste.

Since you do not plan on letting go of the original zeitwerk I would chose the Patek. It’s different enough from your other two and a great looking PC.

Have you considered a 5970 or 5270?

i’m pretty obsessed w the zeitwerk date and it was probably my favorite release from SIHH, but I’d actually go for the patek. the zeitwerk is such a distinctive design that something about having two of them just doesn’t quite jive for me personally. the 5327 is a gorgeous watch and I think quite a bit more different from the 5205 than the zeitwerk date is from the zeitwerk.

tho again, if I’m buying one watch out of all of these it’s definitely a zeitwerk :)

Agree with this.
I own a Zeitwerk but wouldn’t consider a 2nd addition, even if different complication.
What about the 5740?

+1

Don't like at all the ZW dial, 5327 all the way.

I'd go for the ZW altho maybe not the Date, if you want an upgrade from the base how about the Handwerkskunst? I love that piece.

Thanks for the feedback. I think adding the Zeitwerk Date adds a layer of utility but it comes at the expense of operating the watch. What makes the original Zeitwerk so awesome is that all of that 'under the hood complication' presents itself as simple as humanly possible! In fact it's just that juxtaposition that makes the base Zeitwerk so, so incredible.

I'll likely go with the 5327G. I like the 5740, but the gray market prices are astronomical and I prefer a leather strap over the bracelet.

Great input. Thanks.

Definitely would need to see both in hand to decide. Remember the Zeitwerk Date will have some difference case dimensions compared to the regular Zeitwerk.

That being said they are still two very different watches. The digital display of the ZD makes it hard to compare to the classic display of a PP PC.

I know as soon as we get our allocation I'll get hands on time because I want to compare it to the Zeitwerk we have in inventory.

I actually find minute repeaters annoying. I am both amazed by the mechanical architecture to bring these pieces to life and would be distracted to no end if I had one on my wrist.....anyone else?

Striking time is amazing. We had one for a short while and I was mesmerized with it. I think out of all of the digital display pieces out there the Zeitwerk is my favorite and I love that they expand upon it with striking pieces as well. Truly a work of art.

I found the ST a bit too quiet, I really wanted to hear that 30 grand premium.

Zeitwerk is an acquired taste. I have tried it on before as well as the striking time. It is a thick watch if you are comparing to Patek watches.

This. Unless one had a very large collection and/or loved Zeitwerks, the original would be enough for me.

I love my 5327 wouldn’t trade it for anything. Breguet numerals, ivory laquered dial, leaf hands, it exudes classical elegance!
