Being a Rolex diehard myself, tell us why you gave up a High Horology piece for a Rolex, just curious.

I'll give you my reasons:

1. The AP is the most beautiful bracelet I've ever seen or worn... I was TERRIFIED to wear/scratch it.... and I hated that. I believe in living in these watches. I'm not worried about living in the Sub.

2. I severely disliked the movement in the AP. Felt loose. Hard to set accurately.. didn't keep great time even after service.

3. The AP is a steel watch that retailed for 24.... I was able to obtain a solid Gold Rolex that retails for 42....

It feels more like me and I love it.

I think you made a great trade. One of the things that attracted me to Rolex in the first place was their robustness and accuracy, which many of the "haute horology" pieces frankly have a very hard time matching.

Thanks, Seth, really appreciate it. I always kick around the idea of adding an AP or Patek, but your details keep me content staying in the Rolex family. PM is always a win. Hope your Sub brings you much joy, wear the hell out of it!!!

I think you did well. I own the WG sub also, and love it. I have never understood the AP love. I have never handled one in person, but I have never found AP attractive in pics. Hands and dial have always looked clumsy to me. Just my .02 worth. Congrats to you.

I get it. When I owned and wore the AP Royal Oaks, I could never rest my arms on any hard surface in fear of scratching the fine brushed surfaces. That’s why the only AP I own now is the ROO on rubber with a ceramic bezel.

The bracelet is a work of art... a stroke of genius... perfect... but not practical in my opinion... the dial is beautiful too... I just never felt comfortable.

I had a black face AP similar to yours. It had too many edges for me. Ended up trading towards a Rolex and never looked back. That was 10 years go when the AP was 20% below retail.

I think you did well. I am not a fan of that model and prefer the Jumbo. I actually traded a SeaDweller for a 15202 NIB plus a few k. That was what the market was like in2010. The differences you point out I agree with. The AP is more delicate. A scratch magnet, do not keep great time. There is also something about wearing a PM Rolex. I still love my PP’s but over time have always come back to Rolex.

If you’re happy that’s all that matters, I wouldn’t have that trade though, I much prefer AP to what you went for …
But enjoy your new watch ..

I probably would not, esp with that petrol blue dial, but your reasons are very sound.

Interesting trade, I probably wouldn't do it, but when you outlined your reasons, I was convinced you made a great move, enjoy the PM sub!

Never wanted a PP or AP. Have been enamored with Rolex since I was a kid. I can appreciate the other brands but they are not for me and it has nothing to do with cost. Congrats on your new sub. I got rid of my 116 WG Sub for the new126 as I really love the new dimensions. My old WG sub had diamonds and I like to be more understated even though I do have two YG DD's for special occasions.

I do like the trade but I’d like it much better if it was a 116619.

I would have done that trade in a heartbeat. The AP is a lovely watch, but you’re right about getting a more expensive Rolex in the deal.
