5726/1A vs 5496p-001

Hey guys, new to the forums - I currently own a 5726/1A (full steel w/ grey dial) and have been offered to swap it for a 5496p-001 + £10k.

I have a 5711/r & am thinking of adding a 5711 blue steel at premium.

I'm not a big fan of the size of the 5726 and love the 5496p but have been told its a terrible trade.

Would love to hear your thoughts!

I owned the 5496p-001 for a very short while. I never warmed to the dial and traded it. It was painful. I would advise against it if you have any reservations about it being a forever watch.

What about the 5496p do you like? The PC? The P? The size?

I would steer clear of the 5496 unless you really love it.

I recently tried a 5496P due to a kind AD and I’d have brought it in a heartbeat if I could. Absolutely lovely watch but there are a lot of beautiful Patek’s to choose from at that price range

The 5496 is a serious "engine", a grand complication and that to me is truly amazing! It's a lot more my style as the nautilus does not really fit with a suit.

My real question is regarding the financial aspect of the trade. I haven't seen many 5726 around and was wondering if it was going to increase in price like the other versions. As I will be purchasing a 5711a, no point in having 3 57XXs.

You sound like you know what you want....

I think your preference is going to be against that of the majority on here however, and presumably by extension - against the favour of the market too

I wouldnt, but you have to buy/trade as you prefer... Otherwise you'll have regrets that cost more than money!

We are talking about two very different watches here, so the choice will ultimately depend on what ticks your boxes. Since you already have another Nautilus (and plan to add a 5711/!A) perhaps letting the 5726/1A go is the right thing to do, especially if you don't like the size.

Value-wise a 5726/1A grey dial is offered for around £33-35k on Chrono24, while a 5496p is offered for around £50-53k. So a £10k trade-up seems very reasonable assuming you indeed prefer the 5496p over your current Nautilus.

A lot of people here tend to choose their watches based on value retention (or appreciation). So like choosing stocks and bonds, many try to predict how the market for the watch will be when they want to sell it.

However with anything, past performance is not always an accurate predictor of future performance. Popular models can tank and unpopular models can skyrocket.

My recommendation is get the watch you want at a reasonable price and enjoy the watch! If you like the 5496P and it is being offered at a price that you think is fair, go with your gut.
