Watch as a hobby and investment?

What are your thoughts on the best (most likely) watches that you can enjoy as a hobby and have good investment potential? Let's say any watch less than $10k new or used.

Less than $10k for an investment watch? Doesn't exist. A Rolex may hold it's value and if bought with a big discount could return same or a little more when sold. That's not an investment. Buying a $500k rare Patek and selling for $1M... that's an investment. Just buy and enjoy this hobby.

Even a 500k Patek will take a long time to be deemed a good investment. A good investment watch is that the one you treasure for years to come. A good investment watch is the one you loved so much you wouldnt even want to sell it even if it means big profits.

E.g. Patek do not position themselves as a good investment watch, they create this image that a Patek is not just a watch, its a heirloom.

Then again, just my humble opinions :)

If you buy right, watches are a hobby in which you'll not lose any money with. I wouldn't go o far as to call it an investment though.

Buy watches because you have a passion for them!

I think Rolex and Panerai are two of the best brands in retaining worth. It all depends on what model,at what price ,at what time.
