Thanks, it's an SBGT235. The first 9F movement (9f83) was also a day/date when released back in 1983. Surprisingly, Seiko released their first mechanical quickset day/dates back in the late 1960s in the GS and KS line, some 20 years ahead of Rolex.

Thanks.

They seem to have done quite a few things before Rolex

Yeah, Seiko beat Rolex with the quickset date, too, as I recall (early 60s vs. late 1970s)

Your only regret will be not having done it sooner

Not at all, I bought SBGX259. It's my first high end quartz and I love it. Two years I have it now and it's 1.5 second deviation since then. Amazing accurate!

I recently picked up the 60th Anniversary SBGP007 with the new 9F85 quartz caliber good for +/- 5 seconds a year. You can even adjust the hour hand independently, so though it's not a proper GMT watch, that could be useful for many.

I know many watch folks can't get over the hump of it being "just a quartz" but Seiko has such a rich history in this area, and this is one beautiful looking watch with heritage, style, and amazing accuracy.

Unfortunately I'm too 'new' here to post pics.

I just ordered one - and am not too new to post pics, so will do when I get it!

In some sense it seemed wrong to be paying as much for a quartz as I paid a couple of years ago for a Tudor Black Bay red, which is a great mechanical watch - and not sure that I can entirely justify it by saying, "hey, it never needs winding so I can pick it up and wear it whenever", because I could do that with a much cheaper Seiko or any number of other quartz watches. And why get a quartz when you can spend another couple of thousand and get a spring drive with that mesmerising sweep seconds?

Still, I liked it, and sometimes we can be irrational about things we like.

Seiko says the 9F movement might go for 50 years without a service, so it could pay for itself in that sense, if you live long enough.

I enjoy my GS quartz as much, if not more than any of my other watches. I set all my watches using it. I have not found the strap "sub standard."

I believe it depends on your tastes...

I have one and love it. Does it compare to my two Rolies, No, not to me but the higher-end GS' do. For what I paid it doesn't have to compare my my Rolex. I love this one because of the movt. 9f and the accuracy. They are special in their own way.

I hope you do enjoy yours and appreciate it for what it is.

Ordered a Quartz Grand Seiko, will I regret it?

Don’t know what it is but it looks completely different in the pic than reality. Sort of lost it’s shine. Might try with a real camera later.

This is a very good watch to have in the collection I can already feel. Always correct time, high quality finish and a sparkle to the hands and indices, lume(!) and easy to change strap. The dial is nothing special and bordering on boring especially for a GS but I feel it fit the overall purpose of the watch. Now working from home in COVID times it gets a lot of wrist time but probably will get less so when I start to go out of the house and feel I want a “real” (mechanical) watch on my wrist.

Oh forgot to mention the size and proportions with slim case is great. Will definitely buy a Spring Drive if it comes in same dimensions.

Already got a dent @1 o'clock, guess their is going to plenty more of that..

I am thinking of buying a sbgn005

It is this or a Tudor BB 58.

Would I regret not going for the auto Tudor.

My collection includes vintage PP calatrava, a gen 1 VC overseas Chrono, a SMP 300 quartz, an Datejust 36 and an IWC mark XVI.

Thanks for views in advance

You will not regret it at all. The finishing on the SBGN-003 is light years ahead of the Tudor.

Thanks... the movement (quartz) is the main worry.

Just picked one of these up today. Awesome. Was thinking about a four seasons. I like the box crystal and case shape but not different enough from my snowflake. I used to poopoo quartz watches but really a great grab and go watch.

Must say it’s getting a lot of wrist time. The clasp that came with it is not comfortable fit for me but easy to swap strap.

Moved it out of main watch box though, didn’t feel it fit with the mechanical ones so made a separate quartz collection (don’t know if g shock is quartz btw).
