Watches in the Jacuzzi

Living in Arizona my wife and I enjoy spending time in our jacuzzi to catch up with each other and to relax after a long day. For years I wore my Omega Seamaster Chrono to keep track of the time with no problems. Now I have a Rolex Sub. I've recently read that the warm (97 degrees) may damage the watch. Does anyone else wear a watch into a jacuzzi and what are your experiences? Thanks.

I asked my AD about jacuzzi and the shower, he asked Rolex. ROLEX said that it is fine to wear it in the shower and hot tub.

Its quite simple whatever your body can take your Rolex will take more I can assure you.But if you are going to relax in your jacuzzi, cannot see any reason to have a watch on, you dont need to time yourself relaxing.

I would be more worried about ending up like Orville. He died in his hot tub. Never tub alone.

97 degree F will not harm the watch. On the other hand 97 degree C is a different story!
We know that the human body is 98.6 degree F. The watch can take quite a bit higher temps than that and not blink. No worries

It's funny, the "common wisdom" is to NEVER EVER take a watch into a hot tub. Yet I've never ever had a problem, and from what I can see here, either have you guys.

Another point in the Rolex column?

Well, I have heard that the chloride in water (public swimming pools, jacuzzi, etc) can shorten the life of the o-rings and the gaskets in Rolex watches, becuse they don't use synthetical materials. Not the heat. Soap and detergents can also harm the rubber material-

But if you send your Rolex for service regulary(every 5 years), it would not be any problem, I think. Has anyone else heard about this risk?

Rinse the watch off when you get out...

I have a bigger problem taking my watch off and leaving it when going into the hot tub at the health club or hotels... I worry more about it getting stolen than the heat of the hot tub.

At home when in the sauna, hot tub or pool I tend to take my watch off and leave it bedside... Not due to fear of damage to the watch but its just more comfortable with it off.... Sit in the sauna for long enough and that bracelet will get pretty hot haha

Around here,in the summer, the outside temperatures are hotter than the water in a hot-tub..

We go in the hot-tub to cool things off..............

I wore my gmt in a murky, muddy,, bubbling, sulfur infested hot spring in Italy, dont worry about the hot tub. If your still alive your rolex is fine.

Jrssv,

Don't worry about your Watch...worry about your other jewels

Hot baths, hot tubs or whirlpool baths may make a man feel good, but they may harm his fertility, according to a new University of California San Francisco study reported in the January-February 2007 issue of “International Braz J. Urol,” the official journal of the Brazilian Society of Urology.

The harmful effect of heat has been well observed both in animals and humans. Studies showed heat generated either exogenously or endogenously decreases sperm concentration, impairs motility and reduces the number of morphologically normal sperm.

The researchers concluded that frequent exposure to wet heat in the form of hot tubs, Jacuzzis, or hot baths could impair sperm production and sperm motility and cessation of such exposure can reverse the lower sperm quality, mostly in sperm motility and improve some men's fertility.

I have to laugh at the fertility study. At our age that's not an issue. On the other hand a back rub in the dark - I won't go any farther than that. After reading all the posts I won't worry about wearing my sub any more.

PS We use bromide but I don't know if that makes any difference.

Agreed, I wore my Rolex and Panerai in hot tubs, steam rooms and saunas. No problems. Just get them serviced regularly and wear 'em.

I wear my vintage GMT in mine three or four nights a week. Haven't had an issue in four months yet.

My SD had no issues in a hot whirlpool

However if your Sub/SD or any dive watch for the matter, if its seals are questionable, don't risk it.

My GMT IIC goes swimming when I do. It gets showered when I do and when I hit the hot tub, it will probably join me there also.
