Well ADs con't control what a customer does with his or her watch but I would report ADs asking over MSRP to Rolex.

They sell to gray dealers, they make bundles, they ask sticker price + hand money for the popular references... This is now the market.

At this point just about AD’s are hand and glove with the gray market. They buy in bulk often and consistent and buy up their unused stock. As traditional jewelry sales have tanked (fairly well documented millennials on up are not spending the $$ on jewelry), watch sales have become even more important. If an AD gets let’s say 4 Daytona’s per year, regular public buys maybe one in a lifetime and will not likely be an individual that buys multiple Rolex watches, a very very small percent of the population. A gray comes in and for the Daytona and a hulk, snaps up like 4-5 dj, some DD, and perhaps something else.

The gray market has become a necessary part of the market now, I don’t think it’s just pure greed. I live an a fairly affluent area and many long term jewelers that sold Rolex have consolidated or gone under, not to mention several that went under all together.

Frankly your thread (and outrage) is useless without telling us where it is. It’s been common knowledge for years that in some Asian markets AD’s ask more than MSRP.
If it’s in the US, antitrust laws prohibit “price fixing” although I believe from 30+ years of knowing various dealers RolexUSA (which is an independently owned distributor for RolexSA unlike most parts of the world) frowns on selling over MSRP. The dealer contract is in their favor and they can simply drop you for not going along with their edicts. A local dealer was recently dropped and some anecdotal evidence suggests this could have been part of the reason.

Rolex will only shut down the offending ADs they want to shut down. Some favoured ADs get away with a reprimand and have to put in place improved internal controls. In one instance about 20 years ago, a Hongkong AD chain was fined by Rolex (so I'm told).

Consistent with what I've heard. A local AD has a lot of its watches appear on the grey market, recently dated with full stickers still attached. Nothing happens to them, as they are one of the largest and most influential ADs in the area, while other ADs in the region were reprimanded for having their watches appear on the grey market.

No, no, no.... we don’t bash like that, here. Those are professions. If you don’t like ADs, fine but don’t compare to others in a negative way.

I won't mention any names on a public forum. I'm sure someone from Rolex follows this forum, and even ADs and Greys. If Rolex contacts me I'm willing to cooperate. I don't have anything against Greys, they are legitimate shop owners and part of the market.

I think the frustration has reached the boiling point in many instances, which is understandable.

I think if you prove to Rolex that a certain AD is selling over MSRP then that AD will get it’s license taken away (no more Rolex for them)

What's the big deal if ADs sell over MSRP. Who cares, really? We have no problem with them selling below MSRP. It's between them and the buyers...

Yep. I understand it’s frustrating. I’d hate to see this guy get dinged by the mods, or banned if he went further. A couple of LOL emojis would have helped, if he was kidding.

We all have our hot buttons. But I use the pause button a lot, and it keeps me out of trouble.

It’s against policy. You want to be a Rolex AD, follow their rules or get shut down.

I have been offered hot Rolex for above msrp but below grey market pricing and pulled the trigger on a few occasions. Kind of bullshit but hey.

Pretty much all stock are available at gray dealers. One of my best friends who I've known since we were 10 years old is a pretty large gray dealer now in SE Asia. He gets his watches DIRECTLY from ADs and yes all the hot models.

He is the one that opened my eyes and told me they work together to make the most money out of customers. He will get all the hot models and sell them for massive markup and split profits with the AD. Simple.

Everyone is making money except the end customer who is getting ripped. 2 days maximum he can get any watch to his shop for me to pickup. Doesnt matter what model Rolex he will have it.
This is just disturbing. Unbelievable what is going on in this world. It is just 40mm of metal, it will not cure cancer or feed all the starving children in the world.
