It won't matter, it's not going to be rare. Just wear it.

Now, I don't blame you because you are just one man dealing with the current Rolex climate in a reasonable way, but this is everything that's wrong with the Rolex market today.

All about $$$ and "investment" for mass produced steel watches.

That SD4K will never make you wildly rich. Even if it doubles or triples in value, which is likely to take an EXTREMELY long time (if ever). So just enjoy the thing now, in the present. All we truly have is the present, and that's what these things are best for.

I understand buying a watch that you want to wear and wearing it.

I understand buying a watch that you don't want to wear and keeping it for investment purposes.

What I don't understand is buying a watch you want to wear but not wearing it for fear of harming the investment.

If you want to wear it, wear it. There are a ton of Rolexes at the moment that are "hotter" investments. The SD4000 may creep up a bit but it has been left for dead in hype-stakes (and that is a good thing).

Did you buy it NOS or was it used already?

If it was used then it doesn’t really matter if you wear it or not for value, just wear it and enjoy it.

Wear it. Mine has been diving and snorkeling on many occasions. I have a hard time leaving a watch sitting in the safe hoping the value continues to rise. You would be missing out on a great time piece on the wrist if that the route you take IMO.

If you like it and want to wear it, you should. If you dont like it and want to sell it, you should not wear it.

Wear it. It's a lot better on your wrist than in a safe somewhere.

Keeping in a safe in an attempt to squeeze as much resale value from the highest bidder and someone else actually wearing it is ridiculous. Why did you want it in the first place?

I bought my 16800 Sub date new in 1985 and it has been my daily wear for 34 years, I did pretty much everything you can do with a watch on and more. I paid just under $1000 for that watch in 1985 and was recently offered $6800 from an AD and $8000 from an independent, so 8 X what I paid for it. Now 35 years ago if someone told me it would be worth 8 x times what you paid for it, that would sound like a great thing, but I would not trade it even-up for a brand new Sub Date as I still like it as much as I did when I bought it in 1985 and even after all these years it feels special when I put it on my wrist still get compliments on it, and when young 20 something kids ask "you want to sell that watch". I just smile and say this watch is older than you. IMHO you cant fully enjoy a watch if you don't wear it...

They aren't so valuable as a collectible. Why not wear it? It's a great watch and the last of the traditional sized dive watches. If you don't like it enough to wear then sell it to someone who will!!!

If it’s money that’s important to you, sell the watch now and buy some stocks, mutual funds, whatever. They stand a much greater chance of outperforming your Rolex in ROI.

If it’s enjoying the watch that’s important to you, wear it.

If you keep the watch in the safe, you will end up missing out on both ends. You miss out on the enjoyment of wearing it now, and miss out on the money that you tie up on the watch that you could have invested.

Bought my first Rolex in early 2019, the 114060, the year I turned 50. I can’t imagine not wearing it. I may buy another some day, maybe a DateJust. Maybe not.

But I plan on wearing that Sub every day for the next 25 years. That way, when I give it to my son someday (he’s 4) he’ll be getting the watch he grew up seeing Dad wear. Not some safe queen he never saw, the watch that was there, every day, his whole life.

Half the reason I bought it was to pass it on to him years in the future. And it will only mean something if it has decades of wear.

This is a real issue and a sad one at that, I have a watch I brought (I wont name brands) for 20k i wore it all the time and love wearing it over the years the value of that watch has skyrocket into over 100k so now everytime I wear it I'm more aware of it. It has kind of taken the fun out of the watch.

Another stupid comment “should I save it for resale””” Come on ... you buy a watch cause you love it and want to wear it... what is wrong with the upcoming middle class trying to solve their financial issues with Rolex

You've hit the nail on the head. They're being treated like stocks / commodities instead of being worn. Real shame.

Spot on.

Things have great meaning to us because of the memories associated with them, not because of the things themselves.
