AD chipped lug when changing strap
Can this be/is it worth polishing out?

That is super annoying. Those of us who change our own bands are careful to avoid scratching our watches. An AD is a pro and should never ever scratch a watch when changing a band. It's especially distressing when it's a Patek AD--considering all the genteel decorum they present. Has the AD offered you, discretely of course, a choice of remedies in compensation?

I think it can be polished. It’s not bad, but I would personally. The AD should remedy it and give you something for your trouble. And sorry this happened to you!

yes, i think you should call the AD, tell them about the scratches and see what they can do for you. the scracthes are quite noticeable from the photo, nasty.

Always reach out to them immediately upon discovery of any issues. Hopefully this will be resolved amicably with your AD. I’m learning that I need to take good photos of my watch if I’m leaving it for anything. Better to have those photos taken while at ADs or else they will think those were not recent pics even if the pictures have time data.

Thanks guys. I’ll call them when they open on Monday. I’m concerned they’ll try and blame me and offer no remedy.
Also noticed more scratches on the back of the lug.. |

Sorry to see that. Very unprofessional and unacceptable. But having them polish it is probably an even worse idea if they cannot change a strap...

Changing straps and adding/removing links can be easily done by anyone with modest hand skills and the correct tools. Lots of references here.

I had Mappin and Webb resize my wife's Datejust. They butchered the bracelet and after complaining they replaced the bracelet FOC (and came to my house with a bunch of flowers to apologise). This is defo worth complaining about IMHO.

Similar thing happened to me some years ago. I stopped in a Tourneau and they happened to have a nice PP band for my 5054G. They changed it while I waited and it wasn't until I got home that I noticed they butchered the strap screws. I called the next day and they apologized and ordered me new screws. Naturally very upset at the time but they made it right. But screws are simple to replace, a dinged case not so much. Good luck

I can picture it now...on Monday when OP takes the watch to the AD, the SA will ask where/when the watch was purchased. If OP says grey then SA will say that the lugs were already scratched to begin with and he should be more careful next time buying from greys.

Such a shoddy job. But not nearly as bad as when an AD dented the bezel on my 5164a trying to size the the strap. Quick light polish will fix it.

Afterwards. My wife happily accepted it and then I inspected it when I got back from work.

When I bought my 5164 at my AD (who kindly sourced the blue 5605G strap) and asked them to fit the blue strap on, my AD said several times that the Aquanaut straps are very difficult to put on and there's a chance of scratching the case ... luckily it went alright.
