My favourite type of posts on TRF. Beautiful watch and what a transformation.

Thanks again to Phil for a superlative conservation. Outwardly it looks the same,
but clean. Inside, all clean , and spot on.

Great story and wonderful transformation. Was the watch ever serviced and/or polished by a watchmaker before Phillip worked his magic?

Watch had been serviced for clean and adj., I believe twice. I never requested that the watch be polished, but who knows. These reds were relatively cheap back in the late 60s and early 70s. I had a lot of friends buy them thru the PX at Fort Meade. Anyway, its 53
years old and runs new but looks old and worn.

Wow that was grubby, but what a fantastic transformation.

Should be good for another 50 years

Yes, the red was a lot younger then. I believe just clean, oil and adj.
No parts other than gaskets. The watch maker was one of dads patience's
at the office. So no money was exchanged.
And yes, my red was grubby! And Im sure I have a few more watches that may fall into classification. The gunk was on the outside. The internals were perfect.

Lovely properly patina induced piece, not over worked. Much prefer to museum pieces. Think you kept the original soft edged acrylic in play too ✓

Nice clean up!

What happened to the hash marks? Usually we see chipping at the edges near the rehaut, but it looks like a few had more significant damage.

Also nice to see a piece every once in a while proven to be all original as a reference.
