I can't count how many people I know, though it's easily in the 1000's at this point. A good number of my friends are interested in watches (own Rolex, Omega, AP, IWC, PP,...), and I can count on one hand the number of people who "waits to see what it (Rolex) will release". That is simply hyperbole of the highest order.

Well Rolex do spend the most amount of money on marketing compare to other watch brands which is why they're so well known. It's the way they market their products which I admit, is genius. The website is comparing "class" or luxury level when comparing to other brands. I think of Rolex as a Mercedes Benz where it's the most popular luxury vehicle and among the top. But I think Patek Philippe, Vacheron, etc as Rolls Royces, where its less known by most people but uber luxury. Only the "few" can afford this. I do agree with the website's grading on the class level for Rolex because Rolex focuses on the stainless steel watches and their complications are limited to only day, date and time. Patek Philippes, Vacheron Constantine, etc watches on the other hand are much more advanced because they have extra complications which is alot more complex than Rolex.

Much as I love Rolex and own and have owned more than any other brand they are nowhere near the high end brands. I wear a Sub most days but today today wore my BlancPain Fifty Fathoms and despite loving Rolex it is in a different league. Rolex make great watches but they are even better at marketing.

on the boring dependable class
but with their recent new releases. i think they are trying to modernize. the DJ2 has some similarities with the Omega Planet ocean. |

Ok all I have had a few watches in my day but ROLEX is by far the best watch for everyday use and abuse. I have a few that keep time within + to - 1 second per day and I do not baby them. Do not worry I love my high end watches but Rolex is usually my daily wear.

Rolex is not the best watches in the world, but the most valuable and the most profitable watch company in the world, like someone said before, there is really no combination like Rolex.

Take the 'rollie' off the pedestal friends. we love our rolexes but lets not start dissing other brands. the truth is rolex is more expensive and gets a return but the quality is no better than grand seiko, omega, iwc etc. " yeah but the 3135"

But their service pissed me off, and with my crappy personality once i make up my mind I don't turn back. They arn't getting a penny from me anymore, I don't really eye shop, I do that online lol at work, so that day if they treated me well I would've purchased a watch or two from them but like i said, I'm sure they're fantastic. but they arnt getting any funds from me, and I went back recently with my cousin since he knows what happened. the guy who treated me bad isnt working there anymore I think |

Terrific!
Hand over your IWC Portuguese Perpetual Calendar in wg with gray dial and I will be happy as a clam and give you a couple of Rolex Submariners. Deal?

I am surprised Ulysse Nardin was listed in the elite group. I would have thought most of their watches sat at a lower price point than Rolex. I get some of my greatest satisfaction from my cheaper watches. Rolex make great watches but that parallels with a strong Marketing campaign, that I am sure costs plenty. Watches I see are a lot like cars, Mercedes and Lexus are great premium cars that are super reliable luxurious and well engineered, but they don't capture the bespoke nature of an Aston Martin or Lotus. for me personally I want a mixture of the holy trinity watches, along with daily wearers, same with cars. Merc for a daily driver and a vintage Porsche for the weekend.

Does not matter to me. I like Rolex, don't like the rest.

Rolex watches were supplied to the first successful Everest expedition; have been to the bottom of the deepest ocean chasm known to man, up in the stratosphere at speeds much greater than sound, in the Arctic, the jungle and the desert. No other watch has such a record.....Rolex has a History, Gents!

Watch Brand Hierarchy
Quote:
If Rolex were assessed on its popularity and reputation, then it probably has no equals! But there are some luxury names which remain superior due to heritage and the complications that go into them, not to mention the fine jeweler's finishing and assembly methods. The people in the know would tend to agree... See Watch Brand Hierarchy for a list of tiers and corresponding brand names and manufacture. |
