Any GMTIIC QC issues to look for?
Are there any quality control issues to look for when purchasing a new GMTIIC?
I know to look at the cyclops alignment, but is there anything else? |

Just an FYI from an old anal guy, when I went shopping for my Sub I brought along a pair of magnified reading glasses to get a good look at the watch that I was considering buying. Less conspicious than whipping out a loupe but still pretty good magnification to inspect the watch with.

Afraid most so called quality control issues are mainly seen by owners using high power lupe magnification. But in general these very very very tiny so called quality control issues are a very tiny proportion of the around 850000 units Rolex produces every year.

The date wheel on mine did "stick" on certain dates, only flipping over half way to the next date on two or three dates. This was an easy DIY fix I found here on TRF, accomplished by using the 12 hour hand set position, and rocking back and forth a couple of times through midnight on each of the problem dates until it snapped fully to the next day. Now my date wheel functions perfectly.

This is a list of things that you may (or may not) want to check (some would apply mostly to used pieces):
- proper alignment of hands - date turning at midnight - proper alignment of the rehaut crown at 12 o'clock - dial cleaness (hair or dust under the crystal) - scratches on the crystal - dial engraving accuracy (is everything centered?) - lume application - bracelet stretch - clasp engravings - crown centered on the crown I am not saying that any of these issues is specific to the GMT C II. This is a list of things that one may want to check on any watch. |

There was the issue with the clasp welds in the first year if I remember correct. No one remembers the threads regarding the clasp welds breaking, quite a few out there.
Don't have the motivation to search it out, but it was in the V serials.... |

This is what I was going to add as well. I don't think it was common for the spot welds to fail, but it happened.
