Sad news of Shigeharu "Ziggy" Aritake London / Tokyo Watch Dealer & Collector
I have just received news that Shigeharu Aritake aka "Japanese Ziggy", the London / Tokyo watch dealer, shop owner, and collector, suffered a stroke at his London home two weeks ago and sadly passed away at the age of 72.
Ziggy was an "old school" gentleman dealer and collector, with a passion for vintage Rolex, Patek, Omega and military watches, amassing a legendary private collection of timepieces. He had a vintage watch shop in Tokyo run by his family, a stand at London's Portobello Road market, and was a regular at all of the UK watch fairs. He wrote for several Japanese watch publications, and released a book about some of his Rolex collection ("Rolex Scene") Shigeharu was much respected and liked, and I am genuinely saddened by his passing. Condolences to his family and friends. I never had an opportunity to meet him, but heard many good things about him. Hope his collection is handled properly by his heirs.
