Just picked up a BLRO. It’s definitely better in person!

IMO, sturdy, reliability, affordability. Not as expensive (comparatively less expensive) as some top-notch brands.

Yes X all 9 reasons.
No other company in the world is better at keeping proprietary secrets and confidentiality either imo. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

This article had me thinking.... what will be the 'next big thing' in mechanical watches? The article rightfully recounts the many innovations that Rolex made (or otherwise appropriated) , the waterproof case, the automatic movement, the self-setting date, maybe even the GMT movement. But what's next? For decades it has been small changes in materials, colors, style, a few new references, but is there anything big left in the future for mechanical watches other than small incremental refinement? The Smart Watch will probably be etched in history like the Quartz movement, but is there anything left to innovate in the mechanical watch? Or is all we have left is to salivate over the text on the dial in Red instead of black?

It was purely dumb luck. God flipped a coin between Ebel and Rolex, and Rolex won.
Had things gone differently, we'd all be waiting years for an Ebel 1911 chrono |

Has any Rolex since the 50's looked dated? That Ebel looked ghastly and out of date within a few years of release.. |

My wife simply loves the fact that it looks stunning and never needs to worry about water damage.

Yes, an accurate article. Says it all really especially the marketing. As a company, they say almost nothing, publicly or privately. It’s adds to the mystique and has us all talking and guessing.

That’s a good question regarding innovation. For me, the ring command bezel on the Sky Dweller is a brilliant example of a new functional and stylistic innovation. It’s utterly simple, and wickedly effective. No pushers at 2 and 4 pm, and that’s something that many other watches could benefit from. The absence of pushers gives the watch much cleaner lines. Good article. I first started on watch forums about 19 years ago on Time Zone. Many of the "experts" there took every opportunity they could to cut down the Rolex brand. Never could figure that out. GO and iwc where the big darlings there. Ever try to re sell one of those lol ha ha good luck with that.

The fact that it has stayed true to Wilsdorf's idea of a watch. That and the fact that they have been magnificently managed from the start. He had ideas along with key employees. Who suggested the idea for the first Sub? An employee who was an avid skin diver. All that plus the fact that Rolex is privately held in trust.
