Time accuracy... very impressed!

I set my watch to www.time.gov last Friday, then last night (1 week later) I compared my time with that of the Web site again. My watch only gained 6 seconds in seven days! That seems pretty darn good to me! Just wanted to share the good news!

That's excellent....less than a second a day. Now if you want it to lose the "gained" time and compensate for that, try placing it crown DOWN on the dresser at night.

I just checked my GMT. It seems to have gained a little over minute in the last 3-4 weeks. I think I set it to my radio controlled watch about 3-4 weeks ago. Checking it against the time.gov signal, it's up about 1 1/2 minutes. I think I'm quite pleased with that, although I am certainly not as anal as some others around here about accuracy.

Hey Rock, you'll be pleased to know I'm wearing the black bezel this weekend. I think I'll keep it on for a while.

I just started trying diffrent positions at night to see if it makes a difference in time keeping. So far, with the 12 o clock position up, Im at +2 secs. per 24 hrs. Next week Ill try crown down and report back. Im happy with +2. BTW, does anyone know whether the acuracy would be affected if the watch was not worn for a while, and not on a winder, just sitting there lifeless. Sad thought but Im considering getting my bracelet redone and its supposed to take about a month.

Well, if you didn't wear the watch for around 45~46 hours, it would actually grind to a halt. However, if you did check your watch after a stationary period of say 36 hours, you would find it's still working; but would definitely have lost a few seconds.

JJ, thanks for the reply, but I was actually thinking more in terms of the watch not running for over a month. So, if the watch is just sitting in a safe, would that make a difference in the watch's accuracy when I start to wear it again.

My guess is that if it was just sitting in a safe for a month or so, it would probably be off by at least a minute (or perhaps a couple of hours).

LOL at Ed's reply!!

If the watch is just sitting in the safe for a period of time and then when you start it up, it will work and it should keep the same accurate time as always. Just 'cause a watch was stopped over a month or so doesn't mean a thing to the mechanics of the watch.

Take, for example, the numerous automatic watches sitting on their shelves at your AD. Most of them have ground to a halt. I know for a fact that dealers do give some of them the occasional turns of the crown to keep them going, but by and large, they are mostly stopped. That doesn't affect their accuracy at all when they are finally sold to a customer.

I was trying to check my watch that I have on this morning, but was unsure. Not unsure of the time, just why it mattered if I was on to the exact second.

Not sure if it gained or lossed, this second hand thing is tricky.

I knew there was something defective about that watch. It's missing a second hand. Take it back to the AD, Daren and tell them you want that missing second hand replaced. How dare they sell you a defective watch.

LOL!! Especially when I forget to wind it and put it on, then it is really defective.
