"The clock is running"
Hi All,
I stumbled across this Heuer stopwatch while visiting the San Diego Air and Space Museum yesterday. The Heuer stopwatch is held onto the spacesuit with a cloth bezel around the watch, and a strap that goes around the spacesuit. The strap is secured by what appears to be a shoelace. (before Velcro?). The caption reads as follows: "The clock is running" With these words John Glenn started this stopwatch as he became the first American astronaut to achieve orbital flight in his Mercury capsule, Friendship 7, on February 20, 1962My apologies for the blurriness. I shot the pictures with my Treo phone camera and through a museum case. -Sheldon |

Thanks, Sheldon. I love posts like this. Kind of like our own personal "History Channel". Very cool indeed!
Of course, I remember the launch. I was (and still am) very interested in space flight and astronomy and anything to do with the cosmos.
