Icon5 Wait on 5167A?

I've decided to try and get me a new 5167 on a bracelet or rubber.

1) Is the wait at an AD as crazy as the SS Sports Rolex?
2) What's the typical wait?
3) Do they discount off MSRP?

I don't have any purchase history with any AD.

Thanks in advance.

(P.S. I did a search here but came up empty)

From what you say I doubt you will be able to get one new from an AD at MSRP. All new pieces from ADs sell for at least MSRP as the used retail, brand new unworn, is now about 28K. These watches have really shot up in the last year as the Nautilus mania has spread to the Aquanaut line.

More crazy wait than the typical Sub but equal to Daytona/BLRO. Difficult to find an AD who will work without a purchase history in today’s environment. Once you purchase something from them, 5167 should be attainable within 2 years as medium-sized ADs receive 3 of them in a year. You will be laughed off if you ask for a discount on a Patek sports model.

Discount on a SS PP sports model....

No AD history and looking for a 5167... good luck.

Your best bet is to go grey market.

As others said, without purchase history or knowing people, it is impossible to none. Even if they tell you 2 years, your name will always be pushed down the list as long as someone else with history wants that same watch.. Good luck!!!

Harold Freeman in Florida has a good deal on Pre-Owned recently serviced. Disclaimer I might own it.

If you have to post on a forum then don’t bother. Stick to subs.

Welcome to the big leagues.

Wait on 5167A?

It’s going to be difficult - but not out of the question. Might take a while and some persistence - but - if you want it - give it a go.

I’d recommend visiting ADs (several) and chatting with them - and build some rapport. You might get a bite. You never know.

Just forget about discounts nowadays. It’s just where we are.

If that is what you REALLY want. WAIT. Don’t get discouraged.

My .02

Good luck!!

As everyone has mentioned it is a long line with typical waiting of 24-36 months or more, and price is always 100% MSRP on all Aqua & Naut models from an AD.

Please do have chat with your local AD, tell them what you want and be prepared to be told off but don't fret, ADs get these requests on a daily basis.

I hope you do get a chance to own the 5167a, it is a great watch that I once had and let go for an upgrade (I let it go at around $13k, before the price shot up crazily)

Good luck!

Welcome to the watch forum.

1. Yes, the wait is as crazy and even more so than the Professional SS Rolex Models.
2. Typical wait at an AD? Could be a lifetime. AD's get very few Aquanauts. I visited my Patek AD yesterday. I bought my wife's wedding band from them and it needed some major repair work, no fault of their workmanship, the wife is tough on jewelry. He told me of a story of a woman who walked in off the street and told the AD that she wanted to buy a sport PP for her husband and wanted to know what it would take to get one. The AD told her that she would have to spend some serious money on either diamonds, jewelry or other stuff in his store first. He told me that he has such demand for these watches, there is no way a stranger who has not bought from him before would get to buy any of the hard to get pieces. I must say I was a little taken back by his bluntness, but it is his store and he can do what he wants.
3. Discount? Not a chance.

So bottom line, you have no relationship with a Patek AD, you might want to think about going gray. We have some trusted resellers on this forum who can take care of you. Sure you could get lucky and land a piece from an AD in 3-4 years, but if you have to wait that long, why not buy from one of the forum trusted sellers. Also the price will be much higher in 3-4 years than today.

Good luck.

I second the above said. I’m a good example (not to brag) of someone going up to the biggest Patek AD in town without any purchase history and chatting with the sales associate. Was blunt and honest and told her I was interested in a 5167A and that I tried a few other smaller ADs without any luck.

We had a long conversation where I was asked a few questions about my job nature and asked for a business card. I guess they did a background check and was pleased with my honesty knowing that I wasn’t gonna walk out the door and flip it for a 10k profit.

I got the call after 2 weeks and said the watch was ready to be picked up the week following the call. This whole process from introducing myself to having it on my wrist took only 3 weeks.

I paid MSRP and didn’t even dare to ask for any discount after what they’ve done for me. Plus I knew they wouldn’t even offer discount on Nautilus and Aquanaut models regardless of the nature of the client.

In short, give it a shot and I think there are still good ADs out there that would be able to spot how honest and serious you are about a certain model.

I would say it's more difficult than Rolex SS sports.

This exactly, try building a rapport with an AD and see where it goes...

Forget the naysayers...

I agree. I visited a new AD this past weekend and I had a nice chat with the SA. I told her I was interested in the 5990 and 5167 and she said she would try her best to help me out. I'm not expecting much but doesn't hurt to try and establish rapport by going in person.

As long as you realize it’s a game and you’re in the mood to play then ask around. It’s akin to walking in as a new customer and asking for a 116500 white dial. Many dealers will want you to buy a complicated calatrava first. Sad times.
