I'd love a Carbon Diver, but I don't see that happening anytime soon. Maybe in 3-4 years.

I wouldn't have a fake, when I learned that my Mont Blanc was a fake I took it to the thing that goes boom range and used it for target practice. Good fun !
After I bought my 16610 I bought some homages of it out of curiosity, I got an Invicta, an Alpha, an MQJ and a Soki and paid less than $225 for all of them.
Here they are with my 16610 and my 16613. All of them are worn about equally and they all work about equally well except the MQJ which runs about 4 minutes slow per day.
Some day when I've got more time than I've got now I will try to get around to caring what anybody thinks of them.

You are right -- they are one step from being called fakes. The producers of these watches are counting on the style to make a sale. THe closer it resembles Rolex the more likely the public is likey to buy it..

But I posted this thread a while ago just to get a good beater watch -- and if the beater resembles a rolex, the more the better for me...

They also make watches using the sea gull 19 movement amongst other and can actually be had for bellow $100
A great way to see if you like a style prior to laying out thousands and finding it on a forum as catch and release and loss

Thanks
it's a china brand
they use those old sea-gull movements

the guys at poorman's watch forum really like them
they ocassionally put counterfeit rolex dials and counterfeit rolex bracelets on them

Not that anyone cares, but I opened one of the Parnis watches up. It has a genuine 2836-2 ETA in it. I, not knowing what I was doing at the time, broke it by setting the date near 12PM.

I bought a couple to take apart and see what I could do with a pocket watch movement.
Not good quality but cheap. Buy a nice Seiko Monster and know what you have :-) m

I get, if reading this you hate my guts and everything about copies, but keep in mind that you/we (as I own other high end watches) are a privileged lot, and not everyone can dump car money on man-jewelry. There's a significant difference between $200 and $8500.

For $200, a pleb can have a solid stainless case with a mineral crystal, a surprisingly nice ceramic bezel, a nice bracelet, and a GMT movement with a hacking second hand. I feel like we forget that some people use their copy as a reminder to work hard so one day they can have the real thing.
Well said. Thank you for your perspective, it is very welcome.

I think they are better to "test Drive " than a really good $380 Chinese counterfeit.

I just ordered about eight watches for $100 from ALiExpress. LOL Really strange unusual looking watches. None that looked like anything really.

They had the usual Panari Homages and Rolexes for $40. It is amazing what $14 will buy. What the heck Those off brand $15 Armitron watches at Wal Mart are probably re branded $5.00 AliExpress watches.

I have my Gen Rolex and a few Citizens and Seikos, I read about Parnis on WUS and they have a loyal following. No one is getting DOA watches or complaining about the quality. One guy has about 30 of them in a case.

That led me to AliExpress and it's is amazing what even $3.00 will buy..I don't expect long life out of them but i have 14 watches in rotation so in that regard they should be ok. Plus I tried to stick with Quartz as it is more reliable< But like m Citizens if they fail i throw them away. A $300 watch is not worth servicing.

I have not yet become a "Watch snob" and don't intend to. I like all watches, I only wanted one Gen Rolex. The rest can be anything. I don;t want to spend Thousands servicing $5000-$10,000 watches every few years,

I'M bidding on this beauty

I completely agree. Tired of these so call 'homage' watches which is really another word for fake! I wouldnt wear these even if given to me. I believe people spending their money on these simply continue to fuel the fake/homage market. Either buy the real thing or not. They also do it on other high end items like LV and Burberry. Seems no company is safe.

Thanks!

I wore the Parnis for at least a year straight before I decided I wanted the Rolex.

Here she is. The other watches in my collection get no wrist time now. If it were not for the Parnis I would probably not have purchased the BLNR.

I just bought a Parnis annual calendar off of Amazon for $110. It is supposed to arrive tomorrow. We'll see how good it is after I strap it on.

Of course it won't replace my 4 Rolexes, my IWC 3756 GST, my JLC Master Geographic, my GP ww.tc, my Breitling Navitimer Olympus, my Glycine Airman 9, my Eterna Soleure Chronograph, my Seiko Suturna (that I use to travel with when I don't want to take my Y-series all black GMT), my Citizen Skyhawk, my Casio G-Shocks, or a couple others I can't name at the moment.

I've had the Parnis AC for a little more than a week now. It's keeping good time. Unlike other Parnis variations, this one doesn't seem to be a "homage" to anything. Someone can correct me if I'm wrong. The subdials don't look well finished but for $110, it was worth tying it out.

Looks good to me.

I like cheap watches and I think homage watches are just fine.

don't buy parnis, make you're own :D
my hand made "vintage" homage to a (we all know) italian navy dive watch.
everything is finished by hand and it has a 1970's Swiss eta powering it that I serviced.

(now I'm sitting with my head between my knees kissing my as s goodbye, waiting to get lynched ! )

No experience with parnis but I would suggest a Steinhart. That's the only homoge brand that I would consider

I purchased 1, 9 years ago to see if I would like the real thing. (Panerai) it served it's purpose well. Just don't try to pass it off as the real deal & you will be ok.
BTW It still wrks like a champ,I don't wear it anymore but it's nice to see how 1 has evolved in this disease

I had a Explorer II homage - sterile dial. It always had condensation when I got sweaty. My watch guy couldn't even get it to pass any kind of pressure test. Couldn't get him too excited in finding the issue. He just handed it back to me and shrugged. The solid end link bracelet isn't too bad. GMT function worked well. Kept OK time. Date wheel is OK too. Crystal cyclops seemed a bit crooked. Case had some very sharp edges in the inside of the lugs. Then about a year later the case tube stripped out. I would hold out for a Seiko or Hamilton they produce watches for a bit more coin but are so much better.

There seems to be a number of definitions for the word "homage." IMO the only definition of the word that is valid as related to watches, would be a watch made to commemorate an event or a watch in that particular brand's history.

I've now had this Parnis AC for almost a year and other than occasionally having to reset the date or time, it's running fine. For just over US$100 you can't beat it for value.
