Ah, Abel, you just brought back memories of the first Rolex I almost bought. It was a YG DD OQ. I saw it on fleabay and bid on it, but just wasn't willing to go the couple of hundred extra $$ it would have taken to get it. Talk about being short sighted. It would have been a steal even at the price it went for. I have kicked myself in the backside ever since.

Thanks for showing us that beauty and sharing your story. Enjoy your OQ.

Thanks oldrolex. That´s true. May be not the liking of everybody, but surely part of Rolex history now!

Rockrolex: thanks for your comment. I regret you lost the opportunity in "fleabay" but I wish you´ll get another chance in a near future.

Thanks for your comments again! Very cordially, Abel

They are GREAT watches!
I have a TT OQ with the Champagne dial, boxes and all.
I get many comments on it when I wear it.
Its fun, its accurate and it doesn't need a space on my winder haha.

I have found myself not wearing it as often and as a result it may
end up for sale in order to fund a grail... Still not sure yet.

What a fascinating,beautifully told story!!!!

I absolutely love the design of the case and especially the bracelet.......so clean, fresh and modern!!!!!!!

I believe(not 100% sure) that AD is the oldest Rolex AD in the World.

I wonder if they are still giving that same level of service today????....Amazing!!!!

A thread of quality for sure.

Thank you Abel .......and for meticulously answering all the posts!!!!!

Abel, a very wonderful story! That is a great looking watch, lovely lines on it. It looks like new, even after all these years. It is amazing how well people will treat you, when you treat them kindly and with respect. A wonderful thing that person did, who changed the hands of the watch to black. Not only are they more visible, I like the looks just as well, if not better than the original ones.
I am certain that you wear that watch with a great amount of pride!
Cheers ,
Carl

It is a very nice watch I must admit. And yes, the ticking of the hand is very loud indeed

I have an Oysterquartz but the dial has been changed. It is wearing a standard Datejust dial. I would like to find an Qysterquartz dial for it.

I haven't seen a black version, but what I posted is my 1630, a pre-OysterQuartz Datejust with a 1575 automatic movement. Are you sure that's not what you saw?

My watch is definitely quartz. I just had the battery replaced. I have thought that some prior owner changed the dial in order to change the dial color. I'd love to find an OQ dial for this watch, but that is probably not likely.

I wore my blue dial OQ into the Rolex dealer in Park City recently while shopping for a new DJ for my wife. Another shopper looked at my wrist and said 'that's kind of neat, what model is that?' I answered briefly as the store manager sneered at my 29 year old quartz Rolex.

"Some folks - you just can't reach."

Finally arrived!

Oysterquartz 17000 from 1980, great condition with Buckley dial. Going to Rolex NY Monday for battery replacement and pressure check and some paperwork!! Will update after I hit NY.

As a bonus the crown is straight up and down.
