Thank god he didn’t return them after the initial reply from both experts and newbies in various threads. Good to see finds like this even though I sometimes feel for long time watch makers that lose out of big money when they have no clue what they have.
Nice Christmas bonus even if it will be hard to sell these at retail price.

Did read about this on here in another thread the other day and I can’t help feeling it would have been best to have kept quiet about it, maybe just show pics of the parts separately asking if they’re legit.
It’s not like a few hundred quid bonus is it, I’m buzzing if I win a low key auction worth a couple hundred. What a result for him just hope some jealous donut doesn’t contact the seller and tell him. Knowing my luck I’d end up in some court battle or something and loose it all. |

No no! Sorry perhaps a poor use of the word, used to describe taking them extremely cheaply without offering seller full knowledge.

Rootbeer7, after I have been lied to, cheated and stolen from on eBay, I would happily take a great deal. You are a better person than me.

Stolen LOL. This buyer did not take advantage of the seller. It is the sellers obligation and responsibility to know exactly what they are selling so that the item isn’t grossly misrepresented. How are you going to act like the buyer took advantage of the seller. It’s not the buyers job to point out exactly what someone is selling if the seller hasn’t a clue. If you want to inform the seller that’s 100% up too you. This is typical jealousy here. It’s not a crime to get a great deal on eBay. It makes up for all the people who shill bid and make us pay over the moon.
I think you are ill in thought on this one. Congratulations on the find, Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

Really amazing that something like this can still happen in this day and age, with all the info floating around on these things. In one sense, it's a bit of a Christmas miracle story for the buyer. I can only imagine how I'd feel if I was the seller!

SouthTexas, I agree. Maybe not all but how many of them got their pleasure in sharing that info with the seller. |

I agree. Very cruel. I also think it’s likewise undeserving to criticize the buyer. The guy buys a Lot of parts off EBay, and there are calls for him to pay the seller more because it’s later discovered said parts are worth more? I agree with the comment this is more about other jealous collectors. Who amongst us doesn’t wish we could find a barn find for a song. Lighten up. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk |

Lol what?! You bid on something at an auction house that’s worth more than what you paid. And you would want to create an arrangement to pay the fair value? Isn’t that the point of an auction? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

And, UncleLuck summed it up succinctly, before you knew what happened you would be writing a check out to a law firm to represent you in a case where you are being accused of some misdeed and recovery of anything from a "fair" percentage up to the return of the items altogether.
Who knows, ebay might even suspend your account. Unless you like worms it is best to leave the can of them unopened. |

I could sleep very well. The buyer should be rewarded for his knowledge and for taking a risk. The buyer didn't "take advantage" of anyone. He gambled and won.

It was an auction. Dozens of bidders determined the final price. There is no moral dilemma here.

That's not like taking advantage of knowing exactly what your friends Grandmother has when she asks how much it would be worth and if you'd like to buy them and telling her its not worth much when it's worth a lot...that was a legit eBay auction, and he won...I don't see any swindling going on here at all.

If every time you bought something at auction you had to reimburse the seller for the difference between what you paid and what the lot was worth, who would bother? Commerce would crawl to a halt and we'd be back in the dark ages.
