I have been looking for some watches on the less expensive side lately, just to see what "good values" are out there. I found these that are really of the style I like, and not terribly expensive:

From Muhle Glashutte a couple of very nice models:

White face......

And my favourite watch from the brand (I really love this one!)......

And from Nomos:

Black face.......

And my favourite watch from the brand.......:thumsbup:

I don't have the exact prices on all these, but from what I have found they are all around the $2K US area give or take. They look like very nice watches for that money!

Anyone have any other "less expensive" and "less known" brands that have some nice stuff?

Al, I'm sure I've had both those Muhle's on my wrist at the distributor's up here. I think retail was just over CDN$2K but he was talking all in for about $1800 or so.

Road trip?

I like Tutima a lot. It's been a great watch and around the same price range as the others.

I've always liked Muhle Glashutte myself and the white one is very nice

All look great but myself like the Nomos white dial first, with the Muhle Glashutte a close second.

Last year BruceS got a couple of Stowa watches made for him and he was quite happy with them. The owner of Stowa frequents if not moderates the Stowa forum on WUS and Bruce emailed and spoke to the guy about his 'custom' order.

Limes has some interesting stuff that's priced just over a US G note.

Sothis has some nice complicated ones in the US$2K range, and then there's Dornblueth & Sohn, but they're megabux!

But what does "German" mean in a German watch? The Tutima that CJ posted sports an ETA 7750 movement. I know Nomos uses their own german made movement, not sure about the Muehle, but those Limes also use some type of Eta.
I suppose they're assembled in Germany, but really, imo they may as well say "swiss made" if the movement isn't built in Germany.

Muhle uses ETA movements as well (at least in the watches shown from what I have found)......Nomos is the only one I posted that make their own movements. It's actually one reason I would lean towards the white dialed Nomos.

The white dial Nomos is certainly my fave of the bunch!

I'm a big fan of German watches. If you know what you're looking for, I think they offer the best value out there right now. Here's a link to what Made in Germany means:

The parts of the manual wind Nomas movement are based on an ETA ébauche. But these parts have been reworked to the Glashütte tradition.So in reality the movement has been changed and refined to a very high standard.
