According to Reuters, White House told federal health agency to classify coronavirus deliberations.

the Coronavirus outbreak thread

WHOOPS

I need to walk back one part of that. Last night FIA did cancel and/or postpone several races on the calendar following the Australian GP.

They include the Chinese F1 GP, and 3 Formula E-Prix’s; Sanya, Rome & Jakarta.

As for AustraliaGP, they’ve had 3 team members go into isolation (one at McLaren and two at Haas) - treated as presumed coronaviral compromised until test results are returned.

Those team members had been freely mixing with other personnel in the paddock. If testing returns a positive result, I expect that would incite calls to cancel the GP weekend.

Interestingly, Italian personnel from Ferrari, AlphaTauri and Pirelli were already in Melbourne before Australia enacted travel restrictions affecting travelers from Italy...

scary times indeed, especially when information will not be with held. Doesn't make much sense to me especially when they are supposed to be educating the public on the matter.

Coronavirus mortality rate is less than 1%. Sky is not falling. However, it may be the End of Days - armed robbers stole $170 worth of toilet paper in Hong Kong.

I don’t agree with the mass hysteria. This very thread has a mention of “end of days”.

Some people thrive on panic, and misery. And this scenario bring them out in droves.
Agree 100%

We have NO idea what the infection rate is in the US. My physician friends cannot test suspected cases in the community setting unless they can document a link to known cases. If you don’t check for coronavirus, you won’t find it.

Same is true here, absolute madness. Tests can be carried out only if you fulfil basically all symptoms and you have been cleared to be corona tested by a infection specialist doctor. Just stupid imho.

Tests can be carried out, but only if it is at least 95% certain that you have the corona virus it seems. You have to ask yourself, if it is almost certain you have the virus, what is the point of testing? Is it not more important to test those you are not so sure about?

To ease peoples panic. A Virus with a mortality rate of 3,5% is much worse than a virus with a mortality rate of 1%. Right now we have no idea what it is, but surely doesn't seem to be 3,5%.

And wouldn't it be great with Toilet Paper in stores????

I can understand them restricting testing (to an extent) so they don't have masses of people seeking out a test every time they cough. However what I'm reading here is very concerning.

Sweden's mortality rate (as of current) is 0,2%.

The same is true here.

However, whilst I don’t know the situation is in your country or the States, I can say that if we decided to test every single person who might have COVID-19 (basically everyone with a respiratory tract infection) it would immediately cripple the health service, which is why tests are currently being limited to those with symptoms and exposure to COVID-19. Mild RTI’s are the single most common presentation to primary care this time of year. Every kid under 5 has one seemingly every other month in the winter.

My understanding is that part of the reasoning for the strategy of trying to delay a full-blown outbreak - which most believe is inevitable regardless - is to push us beyond the normal ‘flu/RTI season before the virus gets a grip, so when that time comes, people presenting with RTI’s are less likely to have ‘flu or rhinovirus, increasing the pick-up rate of coronavirus diagnosis.

Squabbling over mortality rates compared to xXxX disease is not the proper focus.

Italy has shown that the level of infected sick people needing critical care will overrun any first world, well run and funded medical system.

Wars are lost on casualty burden, not dead soldiers. Sick people drain resources more than dead people.

Heart attacks, car wrecks..etc won't stop lieu of the virus, so those emergencies will be piled upon those sick from the virus and totally blow out the medical system.

Spread must be slowed to mitigate that from happening.

Plopping for a few weeks is not much to ask in this situation.

So, they don't want people who suspect they may have the corona virus to seek tests because it would mean more work for them?

https://www.cnbc.com/2020/03/10/nyc-...asio-says.html

"“They’re coming in so intensely now that being able to give you a detailed case breakdown, we’re not in that position to do that at this moment because there are so many coming forward,” de Blasio said, speaking at Bellevue Hospital in Manhattan. “As of 12 noon ... the number of confirmed cases in New York City is 36. That’s 16 new since yesterday and 11 new even since this morning at 7 a.m. when I last spoke about this.”"

"“If you do that math, it gets very disturbing,” he said. “It gets to a very large number very quickly. If there are 1,000 people infected today, in seven or eight weeks, there could be 64,000 people infected in the state of Washington.”"

I think someone needs to start explaining why the response to this has been so slow.

No disagreement on your point but people are panicking and hoarding toilet papers because they think they are going to die from coronavirus. So I'd say mortality rate is the proper focus.

Instead of worrying about Corona you should go get some exercise and lose some weight that will extent you’re life more than fretting over something that hasn’t happened to you.

I’d suggest some fat reserves.

If you get a bad case of COVID-19, you’ll want them to help you through.

LabCorp has the multi target PCR test available so if a doc wants someone tested they can do it . Quest is also working on it .

People are hoarding toilet paper for fear of being quarantined.

And now my large state university suspended class until April 6th. Classes will be online. They told us the April 6th deadline to return could be pushed back even farther.

It's already ugly in my opinion.

Worst is definitely yet to come.
