Just bought a bottle of very old saint nick 17 lost barrel. Allegedly SW juice but honestly could be bullsheet. Either way I am hoping its delicious.

We'll have to organize some sort of whisky & watches meet-up when I get back to SD.

I’m a huge fan of compass box. I haven’t had a bottle that disappoints.

Please let us know how you like it.
Cheers!

I hope this is the right thread for this... I have recently “discovered” bourbon having not drunk it before (aside from JD) and really taken a liking to it.

So far I have tried

Jack Daniels
Wild Turkey
Woodford Reserve
Jack Daniels Gentleman Jack
Bulleit

I liked the Gentleman Jack best but Bulleit came a close second.

Can anyone recommend some other good “entry” bourbons for a beginner?

Thank you.

Everyone’s palate is different. I loathe Gentleman Jack, so take these recs with a grain of salt:

Old Grand Dad Bottled in Bond - widely praised by bourbon aficionados as one of the best QPR bourbons readily available (Wild Turkey 101 is typically mentioned in the same breath)

Very Old Barton - folks will debate whether the 90 or 100 proof is better, but if the price is MSRP, you’re doing fine

Buffalo Trace - plenty of aficionados have this as their daily, especially if you can sample and acquire barrels picked by and bottled for a store or consortium

Eagle Rare - see BT above

I'm quite uneducated in strong alcohols. The only way I drink them is in cocktails.

I used to love red wine, I've been much more into special beers in the last couple of years.

What makes whiskey so special to you?

Have to agree everyone seems to like different stuff but I’ve been drinking old forester 1920 lately. You should be able to find that for a fair price locally. Give it a shot

If you can find an Eagle Rare, that will be a good one. Otherwise an Evan Williams bottled in bond (white label) Wild Turkey 101 or Buffalo Trace are good.

Picked these up online and had them shipped to a buddy’s place for safe keeping (I’m deployed and won’t be home for several months). Got them all under retail, which surprised me considering their sources.

I’ve heard the Rare Perfection stuff is interesting. Who knows about the legitimacy of the story, but I’ve read good things. The prices made it worth my while to try them. The ECBP is just a good one to have an extra on hand of.

Having one myself right now. Huge fan of EHT Small Batch.

First drink tonight was a Booker's Country Ham, then Stagg Jr #13, then Blanton's SiB, now EHT.

Country Ham is my favorite and then EHT Small. Stagg Jr is just okay and Blanton's is so hit or miss.

Picked up a michters toasted rye at the recommendation of that jacka** dean above lol

Think I want to try woodford double oak next.
