Have him include the papers in the photo with the watch that show the reference number but smudge the SN

if you're in phoenix, the only AD that might be able to authenticate on the spot is Coffin and Trout. You'd have to call them; their watchmaker only works certain days.

it might also be worth a call to Oliver Smith, our biggest grey by a mile, to see if they could inspect it for you.

A much more recent player is paradise valley time -- they advertise a lot, no personal experience though.

there are probably many more places that could; picking one you truly trust will take a little more legwork.

Realistically it is going to be almost impossible for anyone on here to say whether this watch is authentic or not from a couple of photos.

To be fair if the seller is offering to meet you at an AD to authenticate the watch, I’d say that is a fairly good sign…

If it were me, I’d take them up on the offer to meet at a dealer to authenticate. Too many good super-clones out there to know for sure. Good luck.

What you have are photographs of a watch. What you don’t know: is it his, are they stolen pics?

General question on authentication - to say that a Rolex is genuine would the AD watchmaker have to open the case and inspect the movement?

I suggest you buy from the cpo program at rolex AD, if you are not capable of identifying a fake rolex.

The Rolex AD can at least run the warranty card. I'd do that since seller is willing to work with you.

Meet at the AD and have a look. See what the AD has to say and see if they have a watchmaker on site.

For 100% peace of mind it needs to be sent into RSC for a service. Some ADs have RSC facilities. If it or any part of it is fake, or the watch is stolen, they will tell you.

If I was selling my 116610LV privately I would have done this in advance of putting it on the market. It would be up to me to prove it's genuine, not the buyer.

If in doubt, don't. It's not like these watches are super rare.

Buy the seller is the best advice I can give you. If you are uncomfortable, buy from a TRF trusted seller.

Based on the pictures I would pass. Is there enough savings to bypass legit Trusted Sellers?

It may be the photos, but the dial looks black to me. In some light the green dial does looks black. If in any doubt about the watch, buy the seller and only buy from a trusted used watch concern.

As one poster said the Rolex CPO is one way to go, especially if you don’t mind getting ripped off. Check out their prices. The pre-owned pieces have asking prices higher than current model MSRP. The pic and box look OK to me, seller will meet at AD and have watchmaker look it over, if he says authentic, you are good to go.

Trusted Sellers on this forum, certainly a way to go. I have bought from a few private people with 100% peace of mind. Due your homework. Good luck.

I feel if someone is willing to meet at an AD that is a good sign. Good luck and hope it works out

As others said look for an inspection by the AD; hopefully they have a watchmen who can open it and look inside, plus inspect it and the paperwork thoroughly. Let us know how it goes.

Meet a stranger at an AD?
Why endanger the whole staff?

If I sound curt it isn’t intentional - just a serious concern.

Then there is this point:

Agree, or worse, a stolen watch.

Before even planning a meet-up, I’d want a passing verity test. Like, “please send me a picture of the watch and card with 5/16/2023 written on a paper with the watch set to 16 date and 12:16 time”.

That’s just basic for a stranger meet-up. So many scammers and worse plying their trade on buyers.

Have an off-duty, uniformed sheriff meet you at the AD. It costs $500 or more but anyone who’s legit should be at ease knowing that.
