Rolex Article: Overland Journal
Fantastic article titled: Rolex Expedition Watches, Tom Sheppard follows the development of the adventurer's most iconic timepiece
Talks about the GMT and the authors personal journey and affection for the brand. I haven't read the article, just skimmed it. Looks like he references a few different models with pictures of the GMT, the explorer, day date and the oyster quarts. Article talks about astro navigation and Rolex's durability, workmanship and engineering. The magazine is geared towards self sufficiant vehicle based exploration and includes articles about trips and equipment. A great magazine that has a cover price of $10.00 US. The photography is top notch. If you can find it on a news stand grab a copy. |

Read the article, the author is one of the original party members who crossed th "Empty Quarter" in Africa. His photo and story was used in a print advert from 1974. This guy is a die hard Rolex man with some serious travel under his belt. If you are a Rolex material collector grab a copy of the Fall 2009 Overland Journal. Great pics and write up, his timepiece of choice is a GMT II that he purchased in 1966.

Kevin, thank you for the plug.
Just so you all know I'm not a one-post Rolex poseur, here's a close-up of my 20-year-old Explorer II: . . . which obviously does not get babied. We were honored to have Tom Sheppard write the history of Rolex expedition watches for us. Unfortunately, Overland Journal is not available on newsstands; we're subscription-based. However, you can buy single copies on the website, and the Fall 2009 issue should be available soon. Then again, I'd love to have more Rolex wearers as subscribers. . . Regards, Jonathan |

OJEditor...
I don't want to gush but your magazine is absolutely fantastic. I would love to see the world in my '07 FJ Cruiser someday, or maybe an older Land Cruiser. I first read your magazine after reading a free copy from the Toyota Summit in Ouray CO two years ago. I subscribed as soon as I got home and just renewd by subscription again recently. The quality of writing and photography is top notch. Not to high jack the thread but if you guys love all things Rolex getting a copy of this would be a nice addition to your collection of "stuff". |

Thanks for the information.
If you can possibly photograph and post the article that would be totally awesome.

Hmm . . . Lol-X, with all due respect, and gratitude for your interest, the article in question falls under copyright laws, and is Tom Sheppard's property, since we paid him for first-time, one-time use.
