Audemars Piguet Skeleton 15407

For me the 15407ST looks best in SS

Something with the gold just doesn’t have the same great contrast against the rhodium movement with gold highlights.

For pink gold it has to be the LE 26518OR

This thread needs some pictures...

There is an interesting thread on hand finishing on the PP forum at present. I wonder if you might compare and contrast that (interesting) information with your 15407ST movement, Sam? If anyone has the 3120 calibre to compare to also that would be very insightful!

Daaaaamn those macro shots are insane!! I recently tried taking some macro shots with a reversed lens and it was a ton of fun but it doesn’t look anything like that, I might need to get an actual macro lens

I am biased in two aspects...I own a 15407or (which I can’t stop staring at) BUT even more so, I am a big precious metal fan!

More importantly you respect carrara marble, the undisputed champion of stone surfaces

TBH although I am a steel guy, the OR looks amazing.
It is elegant but yet sporty.
I was looking for SS and still looking for SS at the moment because it just suits my age and outfit better, but I have to admit I will choose OR instead of ST if i am 10 years older or so.
Its a beautiful piece, and pairs perfectly with 5711r imho.

Thank you very much for your expertise!
I also like and love special details on a watchband a beautiful dial, in this case its the movement. Before you bought the SS one do you also tried the Or on your wrist?
I have never had the steel or the rose gold on my wrist but on the first view i would say the rose gold case fits better with the gold applications in the movement??
Your arguments with the SS are also true ..

This photo i find on instagram...

My watch collection is only very very small but they should be all very special.
Daily rocker 126600
Collection watch:116506,5711A,5711R,5170P
So i want to change a Nautilus into another watch.... witch is also magnificent.
In the meanwhile i also love heavy watches :-D

This is my current collection without the daily ..

But exceptionally mighty.

That’s a great collection. Wouldn’t say it’s small either with those pieces

3120 - Superbly finished, but not in the same race as the openwork.

Haute finishing is the 15407’s raison d’être !

Either a RG 5711 or a RG 15407 will be great.

agreed. I think the Nautilus movement is better finished than the 3120 but the openworked obviously is on a different level.

All the OP needs is to show passion!

I swung by the PP boutique just between new and old Bond Street last time I was back in town and looked at a few calatravas. May have been the lighting in store, but the overall impression was of more luminescence somehow from the movements compared to my AP.

May have been brighter jewels, more polished surfaces, better striping etc. But the total impression was more impactful for sure.

Perhaps it is more appropriate to make the comparison to AP's 2121 (based on price); then there is little to distinguish the finishing from one another (caveating for the recent PP thread mentioned that I have not looked for in both).

Since we’re all a bunch of enablers here, you just may have to get both! Haha. But can’t go wrong with either.

Attached my 407OR, in my opinion keep 5711 steel and get 407OR in RG, one steel for daily, and one for occasions.

Any good guess how many 15407s Openworks are made by AP a year?

Been told by several boutiques that they are now getting around two pieces a year, down from 4-6, with the addition of the two new 37mm models now using the same movement. Most telling you they get more are either exaggerating to tempt you to join "the list" or just don't know better. This estimate was confirmed just in the past few weeks by LA, London and Paris boutiques.
