AP waiting lists is misleading

I feel like the AP waiting time from the boutique is inaccurate and overstated to create artificial demand. Based on many AP boutique incomings on this forum, they seemed to be much more sooner than ETA (on average 1.5 years)

For example, I was quoted August 2018 and received my jumbo in June 2018.

Boutiques in Asia are quoted 1.5 years but they receive their pieces in 4-6 month waiting period.

Just out of curiosity has anyone here put a deposit down for a jumbo or a blue 15400 and waited over a year to receive their piece?

So you were quoted 18 months and received in 16 months ?

Sounds like a great job of meeting expectations.

Same experience here, paid a deposit in May this year for delivery in December, got the call in September. So total waiting time 4.5 months. Not too bad.

But I had to pay the price increase.

I hope so

With no purchase history I've been quoted 5 years for a blue 15400.. Not a huge amount of options for those of us in Australia unfortunately as the nearest boutique is in Singapore

Misleading is when they tell you you’re on a list and never call back. Or when they tell you they have not received any yet.

What you’re describing is the opposite of misleading in my humble opinion.

I completely agree. I have found the AP waitlist process very transparent.

Poor AD’s/boutiques can’t win!

We moan if we have to wait longer and now moan if it’s quicker

Don’t over think it, if you have the watch you want just enjoy it

I think no AD has any incentive to underestimate delivery times now, so they get you to think there is a lot of demand and FOMO you, and if it comes in earlier you'll be extra pleased so win win.

But in answer to your question yes the AP hype and scarcity is far less organic than Patek and Rolex's situations.

AP waiting lists is misleading

I called the nearest AD to me in Canada and they quoted me 3-6 month for my 15400. Currently on month 2 but AD called to reaffirm that ETA is still on plan.

I think the key is to under promise and over deliver! When I put down the deposit in April, I was told mid-2019. (for the blue dial 15400)

Got a call last week and said the next person in line, the person in front of me, is out of country for 2 months, and they just got one in. Since the next person couldn't pick it up and they think they should be able to get another one in 2 month, they asked me if I want it first.

Obviously who knows if the story is real or not. But I picked it up the next day and it was about 5 months wait. (instead of 1+ year)

I wasn't complaining. I don't care about whether the watch is in high or low demand, etc. It is something I want so I was happy to get it early!

The wait is too short people complain the wait is too long people complain.
It's hard to give you a date on the dot. There is a list pretty sure they all need to have desposit but people still back out of the list. Or can't make the payment before the next person etc..
But I agree it's better to under promise then over

I think the boutique does the best they can. If they have an allocation of, say, 12 watches in 2018, evenly spread over the year, and there are 7 in front of you, they should at best promise Q3, even though there's a reasonable chance that a few people on the waiting list will drop off.

If they also like to hold back a few of their popular watches for their big spenders, then maybe they promise you Q4.

Now say a couple drop off, and the big-spenders don't bite, suddenly you're getting offered the watch in Q2.

So... who's complaining?

Keep in mind that a boutique/AD would much rather give an exaggerated time window and pleasantly surprise you rather than say 12 months, and it ends up being 18 months.

Having an AD put a watch on my wrist earlier than they originally advised is a problem I wish I would encounter more often in this environment.

I am expecting my Jumbo soon, but never been quoted exact time. What is the new price if you don't mind sharing?

Think it’s just been the UK where the 15202st has had two increasing, one model specific increase from £19,200 to £20,800 (not sure on exact date, earlier part of this year I believe) and then the whole range increase we saw the other week moved it to £21,900.

Assumed the whole range increase was UK, but the earlier model specific one I would imagine was worldwide otherwise the prices would no longer correlate.

I was put on the list back in December 2017 for a blue 15400 and I have been told I'd get an update December of this year on whether or not I'll be allocated one for 2019. I was told it would be a year wait from when I put my name down on the list but it looks like it will be longer than that at this point.

If I were them I’ll quote a longer time as well. Quoting too early always almost ends up in a disaster. Better to over deliver.

At least they are actually delivering the watch you ordered vs. a broken promise... cough cough Rolex...
