I love the longer hands and lumed numerals, but not so sure about the fatter Mercedes hour hand -- a little chunky and less elegant (agree with Maxy on this). The 114270 may still have the best looking dial overall. All that aside, the live shots look great and it appears that Rolex has given us a watch we can all climb Everest in (again).

It's a great, great watch... And so unexpected!

I'm going to be wearing my old school 214270 for a few days in recognition of it's passing. Such a short life span (and short hands)

My wife recently pointed out the Explorer I as a style she liked. I have always liked them (though preferred the look of the 1016 dial). Based solely on the pictures, I think I actually prefer the prior model. May be adding it, especially if prices come down from a massive WIS dump!

Oh man, why did you have to spot that mercedes being larger on the new model, your right, should have stayed with the older smaller Mercedes hour marker. Lol there is never perfection when dealing with us. Haha

I was never a big Explorer guy. This might change that. Do I really need the date?

Very happy with the 214270 I purchased 2 weeks ago...like the new hands and not crazy about the full lume....

Thinking of buying Explorer 11 in about 6 months.

Can't believe Rolex have rectified the hands and lume on 3,6,9. Was so close to pull the trigger on the Explorer last week and thought it would be wise to hold off till Baselworld.
I think this new Explorer is going to be my first rolex. Anyone know how long of a wait I'm gonna be in for?

If the reference number hasn't changed, and the new hands are now the 'correct' ones, a short-handed Exp should come back from a service with the larger hands fitted.

The Explorer is a beautiful watch but I prefer the 2010 version.

3 6 9 in full gold give to it a sort of elegant sportivity that miss in this 2016 model that appears banal.

I also prefer the old minute hand because it is more well balanced with the (short) hour hand.

Rolex-"Here is the new Explorer."
Public-"But the hands are too small."
Later...
Rolex-"Here is the 'new' new Explorer."
Public-"Actually, I like the smaller hands better.'

Agree that this a beauty!

Also curious whether it's still a matte dial, and if the case dimensions are identical to the short-handed 214270...

When my explorer goes in for a service I'm going to have them change the hands & dial.

while i like the hand length change, i kinda wished they kept the unfilled numerals. i think they look great, and really sets it apart from the 36mm version.

I think you mean Explorer II and not 11.

No, there will be no change for Explorer II hands as they have already been updated recently. But with Rolex, you never know but you don't need to worry about Exp 2 for now.

You might be able to get them to "upgrade" it for you since the revised model shares the same reference number; otherwise RSC wont to that as they would only install what was available for that model

I never saw the old hands as a "problem" and I don't see the lume on the 3,6,9 as an improvement. Sure it's better in the dark but in the light the un-lumed 3,6,9 look nicer IMO. So this is actually a great release because it should drive the price of a NOS 214270 down. I'm excited.
