Absolutely! It will be a "fantastic investment"

This post exemplifies the old quote that "a fool and his money are easily separated"

This purchase shouldn't even be considered. I know this watch is currently hot, but it cans till be had at ADs with relative ease

What is amazing to me, JM made it go crazy but it was in reality such a good point he made. The colorful dial was unique for Rolex. I bought a Kermit/black dial Sub when they were announced. Have you seen the prices for those lately? I also bought the James Cameron Deep Blue the minute I found out about them and they are still holding value years later. Do whatever makes you happy, in the end whatever you paid won't matter compared to the joy from owning such watches!!!

This is probably the most beautiful daytona in the current line up. Go ahead if you can't get it from your AD.

Think worst-case scenario. If you never plan on selling or can potentially afford to lose $30k in value, then go for it!

If you like the watch then absolutely it is worth the $50k. I do not agree that the price will drop...i think it will continue to rise as it is such a unique peice especially with the discontinuation of the green dial YG GMT. As always we only have speculation. I personally prefer this watch to the platona.

My individual experience , Dec 2018 my local AD had one in the window ,i was facinated it looked amazing under the lights ,I went in and had a look sent a picture to my son who said not for me , I walked away even txt a buddy who also said No .I went back a week later and asked after it ,Rolex UK called it back due to it sitting unsold in the window , Now after the Mayer you tube clip my lad said Id like too buy it now , UNOBTAINABLE at list impossible to get ,time will tell ,

He is now on the list and every month walks in and is told still nothing and they know your waiting . £26,350 list or £40+ grey market , I think its worth £26k all day and can be put away and forgotten about and will defo make more than the Bank is paying but I wont allow him to pay 50% premium over list .

Do People pay these premiums ? I guess some must but tbh I haven't and wont and wouldn't advise anybody to pay them . My lad has waited three months so far and he is happy to wait ,But if there was a price increase he would likely be annoyed but say what can yo do but pay to play .

This is a nice looking Daytona. What I don't get is how people seem to be so easily influenced by John Mayer. It just baffles me.

John Mayer has the money and time to collect amazing watches and is somewhat of an authority. He merely pointed out the obvious, that Rolex has produced a couple of very unique colorful dials for a couple of very high end Daytona watches. The minute I heard this interview, i was like, geez, most of us fans of the brand apparently missed it until JM pointed it out.

No one really missed it per se...the thing is, we normal people buy watches we like and can actually get and also afford. We have to chose and be specific and many have to consult with their wives and budgets. Most people saw this watch previously and said, nice but not really interested, too green, like "xyz" watch more. The exact same thing happened to the Sub LVC. It sat on many shelves years ago and people said, too green, bezel color is off and many other complaints. Many even bought and sold it off. I myself bought it from a grey on the forums bnib for like $7.5 in 2014, sold it a year later for a few hundred less.

Peple like John Mayer don't have budgets or limitations and his perspective on watches as a collector and one in tune with trends is solely to look at what is available and why, and whether their is a reason to specifically purchase that watch. He is an investor and although I'm sure he likes his watches, his purchase criteria is different than the layman.
John Mayer immediately looks at any watch and asks production numbers, availability, and specific traits inherent to the brand or reference. For example, people have made a big deal about "Mk1" SD43s, didn't hear JM mention this or many other things like the LVC....why because those are mainstays, normal watches.

These particular Daytonas, drew his attention because as he checked off boxes for "his" personal purchase criteria he came across the detail like "low production numbers", and "limited availability"....for him this meant BUY NOW. And so he did and then told us about it.

If you adapt the JM purchase strategy you are either very wealthy or will be very very broke from buying watches. My purchase standards like most of us are very different than JM so I/we don't look for the same criteria, hence I never considered these watches and why even after his video, they still aren't watches I would buy.

YG green dial Daytona is the perfect example of a hyped reference. Sorry, but no way I would pay a penny over retail for it, or any watch for that matter.

I donít understand why the craze is not about the WG blue dial instead of the YG green dial. To me the WG blue dial is the real star!

Rashid.bk, very well put. All I know is, I saw this model awhile ago, I already have a YG Daytona and didn’t have enough interest to spend the dollars at retail. I looked at it and regretted not being ready to try to convince my wife this might be a good buy. John Mayer came along and helped me out. Not to mention my band covers a couple of his songs so I already admired the guy. So now I’m adding to my little collection and my wife is ok with it (which is unbelievable) :)

It's a very handsome watch, so a huge congrats in advance. When it comes to precious metals I'm just a bit more conservative as I believe the metal itself already is the star of the show.
I prefer the olive green on the white gold DD...
For this watch, I feel I need to be opening the door to a Pagani at the front of the casino in Monaco, or watching an F1 race from my trackside yacht.
The blue dial is more my taste but then, it's a bit boring, so a yellow gold AP 15xxx series would be more up my alley.
