$180,000 For A Sea Dweller?

Is this for real? It is a "double red" Sea Dweller circa 1967 being advertised at nearly $180,000. Are there vintage Rolex watches worth even more? Maybe I need to go through some of the old relatives' jewelry boxes.

I think the "patent pending" are worth more, but I could be wrong...

Nice watch no matter what

I think that seller has the high prices to hit the top of the listings when sorted by price. Probably why they have "Offer Now" In a large red banner under the photo.

Look at the bracelet in the pics. It is made from 2 different sizes. some parts are about 2 mm bigger than the others, and have more open sides. No bezel marker? For $180k I'd find an original marker atleast. This looks WAY overpriced for having those issues!

Quite correct and today its one of the most sort after Double Reds and now as rare as rocking horse s##t some sell for well over £200000. It was around 1969 when Doxa introduced the first divers watch equipped with a Helium Release Valve, that was available first to the general public. And its widely believed to have been co-developed by Doxa and Rolex. And Rolex submitted a prototype patent on 6th November 1967 its thought around 50 of these double Red 1665s were distributed.Although Rolex fitted Submariners (model 5513 - non date) with prototypes of this escape valve, for the COMEX divers. They did not start to build the Helium Release Valve into their retail dive watches until the SD in 1971,two years after the Doxa. Now after a bit of negotiations with Doxa and both companies had a good working relationship they decided to share the H/Valve patent to get it into production in the new Rolex SD.

Interwatches is notorious for having prices that are far in excess of market.

There is no mention of the jacked up bracelet. The picture in the bottom middle looks like crap. Obviously avoiding attention to the things that are going to shock the new owner.

Actually I'm aware of one patent pending that went for a lot more than that before the pullback. That one was in pristine condition with papers.

It's a special piece to the collector, but that price might be a tad strong for that example.
