Outer Banks, NC vacation info needed

Guys and Gals,

I'm thinking of an Outer Banks vacation this summer as the fam will be in VA for a family reunion, but I've never been. From the small amount of research I've done, there are a ton of different little towns to stay in. So if anyone vacations here on a regular basis or has in the past, I'd appreciate some info. Dates will be June 27th to July 2nd. Two adults, one baby, 12 months old. Nice beach and good food are important to us, playing putt putt isn't. Thanks in advance.

Nags Head/Kill Devil Hills area is the most commercial. You will find good restaurants, great beaches. Been there tons of times. Loved every minute.

It all depends on how much stuff you want to do, and how far down you are willing to drive. I really like taking the ferry over to Ocracoke Island, but would be extra time in the car depending on which day/time you are getting there. Frisco is another nice beach, also less developed.

Nags Head is closer, and much more commercialized.

Depending on what time/day you go from Virginia (and where you are going from in VA) it can be a 4-5 hrs drive, or it can be a 8-9 hrs drive. Traffic can get nasty on a peak weekend. Also, keep in mind that at the surf on these beaches can be pretty rough depending on the weather, often nothing for small kids.

Thanks, I like the idea of Ocracoke, but the extra time on the ferry isn't ideal. We'll be leaving from the Great Falls area on a Sunday, so hopefully traffic won't be too bad going. I like the idea of Duck.

Growing up my family used to rent a big house on the beach in Duck for a week or two. Plenty of surf fishing, swimming, jet skiing, and restaurants.
Now that my parents are grandparents they've rented another house for August, we may join them for a few days/week.
Lots of great memories down in Duck

Don't know if you'll fly or drive - but just in case u fly, here's my idea.
Been there for great times and my suggestion is rent an RV and stay at National Seashore park. You can't get better view. You'll be on the beach and if someone follows in the rental car you'll have everything needed to enjoy everything Outer Banks offers to have a great time.

We stayed in the Waves/Avon area which is towards the south. Not near as commercialized as the northern part. We rented a house for the week and were on the beach. I would definitely do it again. Twins were not quite 2 when we went so it would be good to go again when they get a little older to enjoy the beach more.

I've been down there twice in the last three years and it's a great time. The reminds me of myrtle beach without all the commercialized garbage that you don't need. Huge sprawling beaches!

I second everything Patrick (psv) said.

If I could go back duck is a fine choice.
