UPS is Now Showing ‘Delivered’, hmmm...

Pretty special day for me. My Patek story started 30 years ago when I was 13 years old.

Growing up in Houston, my father was in the Oil & Gas business and every year he would have colleagues in town from all over the world for the OTC (Offshore Technology Conference). I loved it because there was always a large formal party at our house (perfect excuse to stay up late). That particular year I remember, because I had just bought my first watch (well parents bought half, I bought other half of the $15 watch) a Texas Instruments LED push button watch--very cool to me. I remember showing my new watch to a very good friend of my fathers, and I asked him what he was wearing and he said ‘Patek Philippe’. Now at the time that meant nothing more to me than my fathers name was Phillip and he joked with me saying it was named after my dad (and I never forgot that).

Fast forward 8 years to college when I bought my first Rolex Sub (saved every penny) and over the next 20 years owned almost every flavor of Rolex (YG, Stainless, TT and some 3 and 4 times). In my 40’s I started into Panerai and expanded this year into AP--amazing how this sickness spreads quick.

Well, today my friends, I finally own the watch my fathers friend told me I would 30 years ago. I introduce ‘my’ Patek Philippe 5167A.

Thanks to all of our Patek enablers (Dan, Mike, Ken, Anders, Jim and all of the other 5167 posters) for making the decision simple for me . The enablers thread threw me over the edge early last week and I just had to find a BNIB in stock (not an easy task).

Let the photos begin (at the office and overcast no sun so quality will not be up to Jim’s standards)...headed at lunch to get sized, and will post wrist shots after.

SO FAR SO GOOD

LOVE THE BOX

Outstanding, Paul! Wear it in the best of health...

And now that you have graduated to official "Enabler" status, buff up the old Kodak and start practicing - everyone will be waiting for your oohs and aahs posts!

Huge Congrats Paul!!

Great story, I'm glad you finally were able to get your Patek.

Paul McCartney would be so proud.

Huge congrats, Paul! I love the Aquanaut, it is the only Patek I ever owned, and I'm sure I'll own it again soon enough! Wear it in good health!

Mine says hi!

By the way, it is very easy to size yourself, all you need is a very sharp knife or razor blade.

Paul, that is the best looking steak I've ever seen!

In all seriousness, you made a great choice, wear it in good health!

The hardest time I had was getting the strap back in the deployant clasp.

I finally used some long wooden scewers to help push the strap ends back into the deployant clasp.

Paul - go slowly when snipping the strap for fit. This watch does not have to be tight, or even snug, to perfectly and lightly stay in place. Also keep in mind the positioning of the Calatrava cross - if you want it centered or specifically placed on the underside of your wrist the two straps will no doubt end up being different lengths.

I think when fitting mine, my AD did 5 iterations before I said I'd try it like that. No other adjustments have been necessary and it ended up perfect...
