Best value Nautilus on the secondary market?

Hey guys,

After enough rejections at Patek ADs/boutiques and some self-reflection, I think my path is grey market and a one and done Patek for my collection. Hence, it might as well be a Nautilus (although maybe later in life I'll add a perpetual calendar chrono). But I think playing the AD game with Patek is just too expensive for me and going grey probably makes more sense.

Hence, as the next year is going to be interesting for the secondary market due to macroeconomics, I have my eye on the secondary market.

What are your recommendations for a one-and-done nautilus? I'm looking for the best value for money, definitely want to be on the lower end of price range but I am flexible. Ideally steel, but if a gold piece is about the same as it's steel counterpart then I'd definitely consider it.

Any other recommendations/advice would be appreciated too.

Cheers

5712 Perhaps. Cheaper or the same as the 5711 in price but a bit more interesting with some complications. However buying at todays grey prices I’d expect to be way underwater on the watch at some point in the future.

None.

Quite a few people are of the mind (and have been since the run up) that the values are insanely overpriced and completely unsustainable. If you love a Nautilus, it’s always something you’ve wanted and the money is no big deal, absolutely buy whatever. But to purchase practically *any* non limited edition watch at exorbitant grey pricing is a complete non-winning proposition when it comes to value-retention.

If you’re just looking for what’s the best bang for the buck, I’d also agree 5712. Why pay the same for less complications with a 5711?

I've also got the feeling that in a few years these stainless steel Nautilus's will not be fetching $100,000. I've got a watch box with 6 spots and I have 5 watches. I need one Patek for my one and done, but this year is likely not the year at these crazy prices.

2026 50th anniversary: price will shoot up, now is probably the best time to get one

Best Nautilus I’ve ever purchased is the 5712/1A, best Nautilus I’ve ever tried on is the 5980/1R.

For me a ‘one and done for good’ would have to be the latter. 5711/1R wears very badly on my wrist, 5712/1R I am yet to try. The steel models I would never be satisfied with and would always want to go gold (on a bracelet).

Overall for you my recommendation would be 5712/1A if you are sure you don’t want to go gold.

5712R. Just the right amount of "flash" and priced less than steel in 2nd mkt.

5726A-001.

Price difference on secondary market is close to 30K USD just for a metal bracelet vs leather strap...

Best value Nautilus - 5726/1A. Really functional watch and one can actually daily it if the value wasn’t so mad….

Best Nautilus - 5990/1R. That is a real grail on its own. It’s probably the rarest among the regular production Nautilus, even when compared against the 5740/1G.

Has anyone updated thoughts on pricing and value, and steel versus gold? I'm trying to understand where people think Patek will go after the 5711 was discontinued, and whether that line of steel Aquanauts will continue to command a premium over precious metal sport watches.

100% agreed, 9 years ago I held all 3 in my hand a / r / g, latter 2 being on strap obviously, the r screamed take me, take me, take me. So I did. I love it still.

5712a most comfortable watch i ever wore though.

Nautilus

I think the 5980 two tone - steel and rose gold has held its value exceptionally well. As well as the all rose gold 5980.
The 5990 is also a great investment piece.

My line of thinking is the 5740 trades for about 30% above msrp while the 5712 trades for close to a 100% premium
