Contemplating Trade-ROO 44 for WG OF Daytona

Hi everyone, I am contemplating trading my ROO 44 for the WG OF Daytona and am interested in thoughts. I have a 116520 and have been bitten hard by the Daytona looks, comfort, and versatility. While I love the 116520 and will not part with since it is discontinued, I would like a Ceramic bezel for better scratch resistance and prefer the look of the 116519 to the 116500.

I also love the ROO 44, but I feel like it is large and less comfortable/harder to wear everywhere. Having said that, I have it on as I type and feel I would miss it. I am torn.

My current collection is 14060m, 16710 coke/jubilee, 116520 black dial, 15500ST black dial, and 26400IO grey titanium. I know 2 Daytonas might seem redundant, but after wearing the 116520 for several weeks I am hooked.

Has anyone made a switch like this? Happy or regretted?

If the Daytona feels better on your wrist then that’s the answer, not everyone will be comfortable with the large 44mm size and the opposite is true with the Daytona as it can look quite small on some people.

Ive had two Daytonas (116500 and 116519) and thought they could co-exist. But the 116500 ended up never getting worn, so had to go.

Personally I wouldn’t do the trade, as much as I love my 116519 on OF, the Offshore is so different to everything else, I wouldn’t want to be without it.

I think this comes down purely to your preference. I love OF Daytonas but I’d be certain you’re done with 44mm ROOs and you won’t regret losing it.

I'm the opposite. I wear my ROO 44 then my Daytona. But I get it. If it doesn't work for you anymore which it sounds like it doesn't, move the 44 for the Daytona.

I would say yes, but that’s because I have an obsession with straps that are cut to fit.

Bit of an odd alternative, as the 44mm certainly wears quite large, while the OF Daytona's wear even smaller than their bracelet counterparts. If the 44mm ROO fits well I wouldn't do it.

Great inputs, thanks guys. Interesting that the OF models wear smaller than bracelet models. I was not aware of that.

Fit is so key. It’s like if you spent 10k for a custom suit but then it didn’t fit right and doesn’t matter how nice the fabric is.

Personally, my pecking order (for my wrist) is 43 ROO, then Daytona, then 44 ROO.

But if your wrist is large enough for the 44, then I’d go 44 over OF.

Finally, if you got 44 at AD but need to go gray on Daytona, then I’d def not go Daytona to avoid the huge price premium.

Yes I’d do the straight trade for OF. The 43mm just came out so the 44mm is really due for a movement upgrade

There is a huge size difference. One wears larger and the other smaller than its specs. The Daytona is more versatile but nothing has wrist presence like the ROO.

Nice picture for comparison. The Daytona looks better and a more proportioned watch. I would pick it up and never look back.

This is a very helpful photo, thanks. I have been thinking about adding the WG Daytona but have hesitated, worrying that I’ll grow to think it’s small after becoming accustomed to the presence of the 44mm ROO. Personally I would miss the ROO so don’t think I would do this trade.

I wouldn’t do the trade either because as a direct comparison to the ROO, the OF Daytona feels too undersized.

Both are gorgeous watches but if you find the ROO too large, personally the Royal Oak chrono may be a better trade; even the 38mm one which wears a a bit bigger.

One looks like a watch, the other a clock

What size is your wrist?? That would have a bearing for sure......a 42mm-44mm ROO doesn't work (IMV) on anything less than a 7" wrist and a flat one at that.

It's one of the watches that I see the most as being worn by people that cannot carry them off and should be wearing a 40mm piece and not a 42, 43 or 44mm.

I love my Daytona but truth is it gets least wrist time as I find it small. It’s also small for a 40mm as the bezel is fixed, whereas a Pepsi for example wears slightly bigger. If you find that perfectly suitable for you then that’s great as it is a fantastic watch.

When they bring out the new Daytona in 2023 that will be the perfect time as it will be at least 41mm and fingers crossed they go the whole way and make it 42mm :-)

You've only had the 116520 for several weeks?? Slowwwwwww down. Wait a few months then consider again. That trade isn't going away

Hmmmmm .... not sure I agree with this. The OF WG Daytona is a chunkier (and heavier) watch head that wears bigger than the SS version, in my experience anyway. The OF WG case is actually bigger, with fatter lugs on the crown side compared to the SS version. The rubber strap is also thicker than the SS bracelet.

My experience was with a YG black dial/yellow sub-dial version (which may be slightly smaller then the WG case). I liked the color combo, but the size was no-go.

Wrist size is around 7 1/8” and flat. I am 6’2 with a slim athletic build. I think I can pull the watch off, but it does look large overall as it is a big watch.

Daytona will look so tiny in you.

I’d try to grab one of the 43 ROO.

OP, looking at those photos the AP on you is very similar to how it is on my wrist. My wife has a Daytona and it looks very small on my wrist.

Thanks everyone, I think I have come to my senses. I just like the ROO too much and it looks fine on me, so am going to keep and continue wearing. Appreciate all the thoughts!

No such thing as too many Daytonas. Adding the OF is perfect compliment to your SS oyster

I agree that Daytona is too small. Was going to grab a platinum one until I tried it on and it felt like it was kid size on me
