Pascal Coyon, now the first series

Let's go back in time and take a look at his first series

First time I read about this independent was in 2013 on a French forum. Pascal Coyon, the watchmaker wanted to make his own watch.
It took him 16 months from concept to prototype. The base movement is a Unitas 6498 but as you can see it's completely reworked an very, very well finished. The aim was to make it look like a vintage Longines pocket watch movement. the ref 19.70.
And as you can see he put a lot of work in the fantastic finishing of the bridges and cocks. the black polishing of the steel parts are simply impressive, just like the beveling and sharp inward angles.
Each watch was tested at the Besançon observatory, and got that cool certificate ( imo much better than the millions and millions COSC).
He made 60 watches in total. 20 with a yellow gold finished movement, 20 red gold and 20 silver colored.
I believe it took him 3 - 4 years to make the 60 different watches.

Very interesting and quite some workmanship on showcase.

Few considerations:
- Last name unfortunately does not sound well in Spanish and Italian (I know, quite a trivial detail but I noted it). Perhaps collectors will like it.
- That clipping on the "7" on the dial seems like something that could have been avoided.
- Although I don't argue with the quality of the finish (I should show you what I did on my car paint when I tried to fix a chip...) I noted a few irregularities in the geometry that were perhaps avoidable. I guess this is part of the hand-craft charm but for such a lovely finished movement I would have expected "perfect" geometries.

I see your point but when you take macro shots you'll find something on every watch :-) Indeed like you said because of the hand craft.

It's something for a Panerai, such an elegant watch imo deserves a nice croc :-)

Is there a lot of backlash in the gears?

Probably not important if it’s just in the winding train.
